Locust Shade

Locust Shade is a small county park with diverse terrain situated along Prince William County’s Southern portion of the Potomac Heritage Trail Corridor. With county approval, MORE recently completed the build of two advanced mountain bike trails, The Col Du Shade and 95th Street.

Locust Shade provides an anchor for the Potomac Heritage Trail and helps with connectivity to other nearby popular trail systems, including those aboard Marine Corps Base Quantico (Quantico MTB Club) and the trails in Prince William Forest Park (NPS).

Overall there are nearly 7 miles of trails at Locust Shade, 5 of which are multi-use.

The Locust Shade team is activley rasing funds to perform needed maintenance along the Col Du Shade and along the power jump line. Every little bit helps and gets us closer to our goal!

Donations made directly through this page go directly to the selected trails system and help MORE and its trail liaisons purchase materials, tools and hire the expertise necessary to help us maintain and sustain world class trails in the Washington DC Metropolitan region.

* When donating to a specific trail system MORE will endeavor to use your donation as it was designated, but under extenuating circumstances may assign the funds to other trails/projects in consultation with the appropriate trail liaison or project leader in such cases as, including but not limited to, the closure of the park, failure of the project to move forward, completion of the project under budget, extended periods of inactivity and/or other factors limiting the ability to apply the funds to the original intended designation.

The trails at Locust Shade Park are suitable for all ability levels. Plans are in the works to transform Locust Shade into a Stacked trail system that offers more challenging alternatives for intermediate and advanced riders. MORE subscribes to IMBA's trail difficulty ratings

MORE Volunteers have donated over 200 hours of their time to help plan, maintain and build the trails at Locust Shade in 2020.
