    2018 Trail Conditions- ANYWHERE

Gonna continue this thread in 2018 to maintain running records of trail conditions.

Here’s the new thread for 2018 Trail Conditions- ANYWHERE to report trail conditions for all our local MD-VA-DC trails. Typically, trail conditions at one local trail can be extrapolated to another local trail.

    Here’s the suggested format:

    2018-MM-DD : SS Trail Name : Trails are ______.

    where
MM is two digit month, including leading zero
DD is two digit date, including leading zero
SS is State code, e.g. MD, VA, or DC

    For example,

2018-01-01 : MD-Black Hill Regional Park: Trails are good but damp in spots.

The intent of this format is to make alphanumerical sorts (or reverse alphanumerical sorts) arrange the reports chronologically (or reverse chronologically) , then by state, and trail name. If you don’t use the leading zeros, then months sort as:
    1, 10, 11, 12, 2, 3, …, 9; and dates sort as 1, 11, 12, 13, …, 19, 2, 20, 21 …, 3, 30, 31, 4, 5, 6, …

2018-01-11: MD Fairland: 2pm, 61 °F, YELLOW=Fair – Some sloppy spots are present, use caution. No dust, mostly dry to damp hard pack, some slick spots, water in places. Most of the wet spots have berms on the downhill side of the trail, preventing water from flowing off the trail.

2018-03-10: MD Fairland: 2pm, 48 °F, YELLOW=Fair – Some sloppy spots are present, use caution. No dust, mostly dry to damp, some slick spots, water in places. The Crows Foot south run from the playground to Green Castle Rd was in good shape. Most of the wet spots have berms on the downhill side of the trail, preventing water from flowing off the trail.

Lots of trees down, Austin S. recorded GPS coordinates for them.

2018-04-14: MD Patapsco/Avalon: 1 pm, 80 °F, Green. Some dust, mostly bone-dry hard pack, no mud, no standing water. Trail condition are excellent!

Likely old news, but it looks like Mama Nat. didn’t want us busting down Morning choice to the 4-way at Water Bars. There’s a couple of huge trees down on top of and parallel to the trail. But there’s a newly built trail to get around it.
