Verizon Monster Mash Mountain Bike Race is CANCELLED !!!!!

Verizon Monster Mash Mountain Bike Race Benefits Trips for Kids Metro DC - Saturday, October 28 at Wakefield Park, Annandale VA.

The race is cancelled due to adverse trail conditions and continued rain.

The Children's Health Festival and Kid's Bike Race is still very much on Schedule starting at 11am. But the Monster Mash Mountain Bike Race is Cancelled.

the Forecastors were wrong. They said rain beginning late Friday into the night and early morning. Well it has been raining steadily since about noon and the heavy stuff has not even started yet.

I walked a portion of the trail around 6:30 and even if it stopped raining right now (it will not) we could not race tomorrow. Even the Sunday ride is not looking good. We may turn that ride into a road ride. But that is a decision for tomorrow at 2pm.

The decision was made for no ride on Sunday. We may try to do something next wekend. Watch the forum for more info.

This is the latest information from the Active.com site on the race status.

Brief Description: Due to potential inclement weather the race may be cancelled. Check back to this site for the latest information. Race Northern Virginia’s most popular trail! All proceeds from the race go towards Trips for Kids Metro DC, a non-profit 501c(3) organization that helps disadvantaged youth in the Metropolitan DC area.
Raceday regisitration does not include an event T-Shirt.
Sponsors for the Monster Mash Mountain Bike race: Verizon is the Title sponsor and The Bike Lane and EX2 Adventures are Presenting sponsors

Race Information • All pre-registered racers will receive a 2006 TFK Monster Mash commemorative T-Shirt! • This event will be held at Wakefield Park at 8100 Braddock Road in Annandale. Due to Park Authority restrictions, the race course will be run at the northern area of the park.
• Prizes or medals awarded to top 3 in each category. Dear Monster Mash Racer,

As many of you have already noticed, Mother Nature has invited potential rain showers to our race on Saturday. If the trails are deemed too wet to race on Saturday we will be forced to cancel the race. That decision could happen as early as Friday evening. Please check back to this site after 9pm for the latest information.

Given the uncertainness of the weather, we have put the following contingency schedule in place.

At 7 am on Saturday Oct 28th a determination will be made for the following options:

a. Run the race as scheduled starting with the first race at 9am and the 2nd race at 11am. Registration would then close 15 minutes before each race. b. Postpone the race so the first race starts at 11am and the 2nd race will start at 12:30. Registration would close 15 minutes before the start of the race. c. Cancel the race .

We will put that information on the TFK Hotlines 703 209 5721 or 703 992 0661. We will also notify the Wakefield RECenter 703 321 7081. We will attempt to send out emails and update the website at the same time. The phone lines will be the official notification.

If we postpone the race we will make another determination at 9:30am for the following options:

a. Run the race starting at 11am for the first race and approx 12:30 for the 2nd race b. Cancel the race

If we run the race, we reserve the right to modify the course and the required number of laps for each class depending on the conditions.

If we cancel the race, we will send everyone that is pre-registered another email on Saturday confirming that we had to cancel the race. That email can serve as proof that a donation was made to Trips for Kid’s. As you all know by the online registration terms race fees were actually donations to the Trips for Kids Organization. This donation would be tax deductible for all pre-registered riders since you received no service for the fee you paid.

If we cancel the race and we do not get very much rain, we would love to have an impromptu Halloween ride starting at 11am on Sunday the 29th at the finish line of the race course. A decision on the ride will be made by 2pm on Saturday.

The course marking will still be up and we will breakup the riding groups based on pace and have a fun ride on the course. After the rides we will have a Best Costume Contest and award the prizes that we were going to give out on Saturday plus present T-Shirts to all in attendance. We will also have some additional surprises as well.

If you pre-registered and cannot join us on Sunday we will have your T-Shirt at the Bike Lane for pickup for 14 days after the race. Just show some identification and you will get your shirt.

Thank you for your support of Trips For Kid’s and for your patience and understanding given the potential weather issues.
