Wild, Wonderful West Virginia.
Mark your calendars for MORE's 20th Annual Fall Camping Extravaganza! This year’s edition will take place Friday, Sept 13, 2012 through Sunday, Sept 15
. This year, we are again returning to Davis WV
, where the MORE fall camping trip originated.
We will be staying in the Blackwater State Park campground, which causes some concern, as they do not take reservations
. This is the same as last year and it worked out okay. I go early and do the "land grab" and get as many campsites as I can. Getting enough spots for 50-60 people seems very do-able. This campground is a very beautiful one, the campground staff appreciated how nice we were, and it worked out well. We do not have the campground to ourselves, so we have to play by the campground rules, but last year we had the entire big loop of tent space to ourselves, and several of the RV spots. If you want an RV spot (electric hook up) instead of a tent spot, let me know.
Once this fills up, there is a private campground which is located on the road closer to Davis. It is a very short ride into the trails, and close enough to Davis. In Davis you have easy access to bars, restaurants, cafes, stores, even a bike shop! The drive to Davis is 2-3 hours max depending on your start point.
All the details for the weekend will be forthcoming, but you can Sign up now!
For those of you who do not like camping, Blackwater Falls State Park has a lodge that you can stay at and also cabins for rent. There are several brand new built deluxe cabins that are reportedly very, very nice that can be reserved, but the time is now if you want to set that up. Link here:
In the town of Davis there is an Inn
and a B&B
, and also a Best Western hotel, so options to stay are many.
Canaan Valley State Park, which is about 8mi away, also has camping and lodging, and where the Timberline Resort is. All over the area are vacation rentals also.
As always, this will open to current MORE members first, then to all, so keep your membership current! I am asking anyone attending to register and pay (no poaching please, it's simply not fair). There will also be the usual give away stuff, beer, food, pot luck dinner. If you are staying elsewhere than Blackwater SP campground, in one of the cabins or other accommodations, there will be a registration fee for that, festival attendance without MORE camping option.
Thanks, and watch this space for updates!
