First, mark your calendars if you haven't already:
the next MoCo Epic will be Sunday, October 14, and will start from the Germantown Soccerplex. The plan is to have the ride there along with an all-day festival, complete with bike demos, music, kids’ activities and a post-ride party right there on the premises. Registration on BikeReg should be up in the next couple of weeks.
One of the improvements from last year will be an additional 3 miles of singletrack trail between near Riley’s Lock and Rt 28, to replace the Berryville Rd paved section. The new trail is named
Seneca Bluffs. It is a multi-use trail on the west side of Great Seneca Creek connecting the Hunter's parking lot on Montevideo Road about 3/4 of a mile from River Road to Rt. 28. It crosses Dry Seneca Creek (no bridge, stepping stones planned) and a couple of smaller tributaries that have been or will be bridged. Half the trail is already completed. The plan is to complete the trail by this fall, and to have it rideable by the time of the MoCo Epic.
But here is the problem: we can’t do it without you. So to complete the trail, there will be regular workdays throughout the spring and summer. It all starts this coming Saturday (Mar 31) and I am greatly encouraging you to attend and lend a hand. Here is the schedule for now. I’ll update as we add more workdays.
- Saturday March 31 - 9am to 1pm - Meet at the parking lot on Rt. 28 at Seneca Creek
- Sunday, April 15 - 9am to 1pm - Meet at the parking lot on Rt. 28 at Seneca Creek
