I've gotten a few 'surprises' in the mail from the MD and D.C. police b/c apparently I tend to have a heavy foot
. So I'm considering getting a radar detector to hopefully prevent any future surprises from showing up in the mail. I live in NoVa but my sales territory is all of MD and DC, so I drive quite a bit and think it would be worth it... Only question I have is the legality (or lack there of) of a radar detector. I know they are illegal in VA, the big signs let you know that as soon as you cross into the state. However, how is that law enforced? Will the cops pull someone over if they see a radar detector, or is it more passively enforced (i.e. if they pull you over for something else and discover you have one and then ticket you for it)? I've already spent over $200, and the tickets have all come in areas where it's almost impossible NOT to speed.
