Gunpowder Falls State Park-Big Gunpowder Falls
Trail Liaisons: Ray Mercado, Jerry Fonshell
Trailwork Days: TBD
Description
Single track trail in the river valley with a few clearly blazed side loops that climb up out of the valley, traverse along the top and descend back to the river trail.
Notes: The white trail from Belair rd east is very popular with hikers, families, and dog walkers on nice weekends. The trail from Harford Rd to Belair is typically less crowded. Only 2 of the 4 sections from Belair Rd are open to bikes. These are clearly signed: the south side of the river from Belair Rd west to Harford Rd and the north side of the river from Belair Rd east toward 95. There is a tunnel and bridge system for cyclist & pedestrians at Belair Rd and the river so you can get to both trails without crossing Belair Rd traffic.
Directions
695 to Belair Rd (RT 1) north. Once beyond the suburbs of Perry Hall, look for a large parking lot on the right as soon as you cross the river. It is well signed. If those lots are full, there is a large, second lot on the other side of Belair Rd as you head back south. The trailhead to head west is directly behind the restaurant. The trailhead east is along the river. See notes – do not cross RT. 1 traffic, go under the bridge. Google zip: 21128
