Description
Located in Springfield VA, just south of Braddock Road and west of 495, Lake Accotink Park is home to a network of six miles of singletrack, most of which is located south and west of the lake, above the gravel road. The trails undulate and crisscross under a forest canopy between the railroad tracks above the lake and the gravel road next to the lake. The terrain can be considered moderate: fun for both beginners and veterans alike. As of this writing, there is no color-coded blazed route or loop at Accotink, but it’s hard to get lost: If you reach the railroad tracks, head downhill; if you reach the gravel road, head uphill.
Notes:
Do not ride on trails that are wet and muddy: it ruins the trail and your bike components!
Yield to pedestrians.
Night riding is ILLEGAL at Lake Accotink.
This trail is metro-accessible from the Franconia/Springfield station!
You can ride the trails at Wakefield and Lake Accotink Park in the same day, as they are connected via gravel road. Follow directions “From Wakefield Park”.
Directions
From Wakefield Park
Ride your bike south on the gravel road. Cross under Braddock Road. Take your first right. Cross a small bridge, then turn left. Climb the singletrack to the left of the stairs. Follow Danbury Forest Drive south until it ends. Ride straight up the hill to the gravel road. To the right of the kiosk, you should see singletrack leading into the woods. You’re there!
From 495
Take Braddock Road East. Take a right onto Backlick Road. Take a right onto Highland St. Follow this to Lake Accotink Park. Park at the big parking lot on the left, next to the train trestle. From there, ride your bike up to the dam, then take a left on a paved trail. Follow this up a short, but steep, uphill. Ride until you see singletrack on your left. You’re there!
