Does any one know if the trails at Schaefer or Cabin John will be ridable this afternoon. I am guessing it may be a touch wet, but it has been so dry for a long time, I am wondering if the ground just absorbed it all. I am hoping to go for a short ride, but if it is going to be muddy, I wont go.

No message on the trail closure line--I was hoping to get a ride in at either place as well.

I am sure yesterday was fine, but there is no way it would ok today.

In fact! The night ride was called off because of the rain. If I can't ride then nobody can ride :)

****LMAO****

Dude, you're kidding. Seriously???!?!?

Well, if you're kidding, I gotta tell you, that brightened up my otherwise crappy afternoon.

If you're not kidding, well, ahh . . . goin out on a limb here . . .there's no way you should ride Schaeffer, Cabin John, Accotink, Wakefield or anywhere else this afternoon. And I'd check around to see what it's like by this weekend. Some places, most notably Schaeffer, tend to retain water like a sponge. Others, like EF and Gambrill are more impervious and tend to drain better--although no place is completely immune to the rains!

Sorry!

I was checking about yesterday (Wed), but I didnt go.

After last nites rain I know it is to wet right now. Now I am hopping for Fri or the weekend. Normally I ride at least once during the week and I have not ridden all week.

Next week I am hopping to ride 4 or f times with the holidays. :D

Honestly, I would not ride Schaeefer (I'd also venture that this applies to Patapsco, Fountainhead, Wakefield, Accotink and others close in to the city) this weekend until at least Sunday. Here's why:

In the fall, you have several things working against the trails draining properly, specifically, trees are going dormant and not drinking nearly as much water as during the spring and summer. And, you have leaf cover on the ground which retains more water. Add to that that fact that it was a prolonged rain over several hours and not a quick downpour means more saturation. Finally, even though it's windy, temps aren't supposed to get over 50, so less evaporation. All that adds up to slow drying trails; even though sections may dry here and there, there will lots of places were water has collected and not run off yet.

If everyone goes out to ride these places, damage will be done: ruts and brake bumps develop and trails will widen as people ride around puddles. All things that will need to be corrected down the road.

So please, stay off those trails til Sunday. The exception would be Gambrill and other rock infested type of places.
