I'd like to get some folks interested in ride leading and to expand the offerings we normally have through the fall.
Most of our club rides are led by a regular cast of characters. These guys and gals do a great job of getting rides advertised and giving folks another reason to both go on a ride and join MORE.
So, I'd like to see if there any other members (or folks will become members) who'd like to step up and lead at least one ride somewhere this fall. You can ride your favorite legal trail and help get others involved in the club.
You do have to be a member, and remember the following guidelines:
1) Have fun. You're there to enjoy this as much as everyone else.
2) Advertise like you will ride and ride like you advertised. If you're going to lead a casual ride, ride at a casual pace. If you want to do a slow/fast/long/whatever ride, just describe it accurately so people can know what to expect.
3) Having multiple level rides starting at the same time can be a great idea. It lets people 'self-select' and help distribute riders a little better.
4) Print out (and bring) the waiver. It's a minor inconvience but people understand.
5) Ride a trail you know.
6) Try to start the ride on time. Someone will always be running late. Lingering around a trailhead in fall or winter can be a little uncomfortable.
7) Advertise about a week (or more) in advance, if possible. The ride leader form is located here: http://www.more-mtb.org/index.php?page=LeadingRides
8) Give a little prep talk at the beginning of your ride and designate a reliable sweeper.
9) Ride and see #1.
Ok - So for all you folks who have considered it, here's your chance. Get out on your favorite trail, at your preferred pace, and show others how much fun you have. Is any one interested in leading a ride or two this fall?
