View Full Version : Where to get old rockshox parts

I'm rebuilding a '00 rockshox Sid XC for a friend.
Unfortunately the wave spring washers that make the Homer valve function properly are broken.
I called my LBS for replacement parts and they said Rockshox does not sell any parts for forks older than 5 years. A quick google search came up empty so I thought I'd ask you guys.
Anybody knows of a place where they sell equivalent parts? Could I get a similar washer in a regulars nuts and bolts shop?
I'm in a bit of trouble because the fork worked OK before I serviced it. I guess the broken washers still held everything in place.
Thanks

Go to angryasian.com and/or google hippie tech suspension. Both these sites have some serious suspension know how. They'll know what to do.

are you talking about the snap ring washers....if so Pep Boys use to have those in their small parts drawers. While you're there pick up a cheap pair of snap ring plyers.

Hey JP. I have a very old mag 21 - any chance the washers are the same? I know its a long shot, but it's yours if you can use it. Are we riding tomorrow? Now I'm thinking Avalon. I'll bring it. FYI - there's a pep boys up here near LR on Joppa Road.
I've got an 02 Marz Bomber that could use a rebuild - you wanna ruin that?

Hi rmac,
I just emailed you. Avalon would be fine, anything as long as it is biking!
I'll be happy to ruin any fork you have!
I might try the pep boys store, that sounds like a good idea.
The part I am looking for is not a snap ring washer but a wavy spring washer. They are made of a single piece, complete circle that is warped so it doesn't lie flat. If you press on them, they become flat.

oh yeah the wavy washer....BTI has a service kit for a 2000 sid that may have that part. You'll have to find a shop with a BTI catalog to order it for you.

If all else fails, McMaster-Carr (http://www.mcmaster.com/) typically has parts and pieces one can't find locally. Type "spring washer" into the product search and several types (including the one you describe) will come up.

I don't believe that the SID changed significantly from 2000 to 2007, so you can likely use modern parts on that vintage fork.

I found the part at McMaster-carr, they have it in stock and I'll get 25 of them so if anyone needs a wavy spring washer let me know!
Thanks everyone for your input (except Rmac that insinuated that I am a bad mechanic) :p
