All,

I'm going to remove my large 44 tooth chainring and run a bash guard. My question is should I lower the front derailleur? Or, should I leave it where it is due to the cage design/bend. Or in other words, is the FD cage design optimized for three chainrings and I should leave it where it is?

I left mine where it was and just adjusted the limit screw to remove the ability to shift to the outside ring and it works fine. It worth noting I hardly ever use it though. :)

Leave it where it is unless it interferes with the bash guard. A 3-ring derailleur probably doesn't have enough limit screw adjustments to (1) allow it to be lowered into proper adjustment on the middle ring AND (2) prevent an accidental down-shift from dropping the chain into your BB.

Just leave it alone and like the others said, adjust the limit screw.

Thanks. I'll set the limit screw and leave it at that.
