anyone here ever hear of a dual bladder compatible camelbak? I see comments in some camelbak descriptions online, but not sure what it means. do people sometimes put two bladders into a camelbak at once?

I guess I could see that as being convenient if someone wants to have gatorade in one and water in the other or something like that, but never seen/heard about anyone doing that.

Most people I've seen just use a big camelback, and put two bladders in it (one in the bladder compartment and one in the storage section) and swap them when the first is empty.

I think its pretty common in the hotter regions, like Moab during the summer. When its 100+ degrees out its possible to burn through a 100 ounce bladder in an hour or two.

With the HAWG you can add a second bladder and run a hose down both shoulder straps. You could fill one with Heed and one with water. You can probably guess just how heavy that will get.

People may be referring to CamelBacks which have a hose slot near each shoulder strap, or a larger slot in the center, instead of just in one spot, AND enough room for a second bladder. In the case of the HAWG there is a second bladder "holder" (piece of rope) and the slot for passing the hoses through is in the middle of the unit.

The HAWG is a nice unit. Lot's of room, two bladder capacity, pockets that are just the right size, and not too heavy.

Where's Droo when you really need him.

HEY SQUARE BLADDER!!!!

But seriously folks.

There are many packs out there that work well with two bladders. You don't really need two different pockets for them, though some exist. I'd just go to your LBS or a place that has a variety of packs and look for a big one.

I've got one by some company that starts with a V (insert "older guy" loss of memory joke here). It has worked well on the few rides where I need more than 3 liters of water.

Bye bye

I have used 2 bladders in my HAWG before and it is very heavy and sorta awkward. What works much better for me when I am out for more than 3 hours or so is to bring a purifier pump and some Sweetwater drops. I got this pump

It is good for 1100 liters between filter changes and pumps directly through the camel back hose with the bite valve pulled off. It weighs less than a single extra water bottle.
