I have Vittoria cross XG Pro on my cross bike. I would guess I have around 800 miles or less use on them. The front is fine. I was just mounting my light and noticed the tread on the rear was about GONE.

I LOVE THIS TIRE. It really grabs the road and the dirt well. Is this the typical wear I am going to see on a tire of this type from riding it mostly on pavement? I guess I should have switched the front and back out 1/2 way through... but who'd have thought I was half through at 400 miles!

Anyways -
Any recommendations on a cross tire that will grab like this but last?
Should I expect similar disintegration of any grippy cross tire ridden on pavement (like MAXXIS or Mich.)?

I have used Specialized Armadillo Burroughs CX tires before. They wore much better and were very fast, but didn't have a lot of grip when going to dirt, grass and gravel.

I like the Ritchey Speedmax cross tires for a set up that sees pavement and dirt. I do a lot of gravel road riding on them as well as singletrack - rode all of Salamander and Upper Ridge trails in the Shed on them last week and they did fine. They last pretty long although I can't give you actual mileage numbers since I don't have a computer on the bike.

Which size speedmax have you been using?

I have used a couple of pairs and they wear very well. I have sone skinnier ones right now, but they scare me off-road. I got some nokian ravaogozzi's on a bike and they had beefier side-walls and rode-well, but they wore too quickly...

I have the 35s. Mrs. Outlaw's new Crosscheck came with the 32s, but I just measured both of them with my cheapo calipers and they are the same width: 33.5
