I have a problem that needs a low cost or free solution...
A friend wants to get back into shape, but is rather cheap. He bought an old Giant Iguana off craigslist. Unfortunately, he doesn't know anything about bikes and I was unable to join him. The bike is a mess. The rear hub is broken at the spoke holes, the cogs (old Suntour freewheel) are rusty, and the bottom bracket (cup/cone style) is corroded. Then there is the normal stuff such as cables, etc...
I need a cheap/free rear wheel with 135mm spacing. It doesn't have to be perfect, just usuable. If it needs some minor truing or new bearings, I can handle that. 7spd is fine.
I also need a 68x125mm square taper BB. I can probably go a few mm in either direction on the spindle length. Cartridge is preferred, but if you have a cup/cone style in good shape I can work with that too.
Help me get him rolling before it gets cold...
Thanks,
Chris

I've got a cheap wheel that came on my wife's old bike. Generic hub, generic rim, 7s - I don't even know how to get the cassette/freewheel off (there is a slot for a shimano lockring tool, but over it there is I guess another lockring, looks like it has 4 internal splines, says sunrace and has a patent number on it... if/when you need to get this thing off I think it might be something to have a shop do).
It is pretty true, and the bearings feel about as good as can be expected on a wheel that came from a <$300 bike. There's plenty of life left in the cassette too.
Yours if you want it.

I might have your BB, I think it's shorter than a 125 tho. I will check the sizes. I know I have a couple laying around, probably brand new in the box.

A little shorter is probably fine.
Fausto, do you get out to the Wakefield rides?

I just replaced my crank and bottom bracket to a Shimano LX Hollowtech II.
What I took off was a square taper Shimano BB-UN53. It says 68 but only 110 MM. Can you use it. Let me know. It also says 1.37 x 24. I don't exactly know what all that means. Let me know.

That'll work. Frequently the spindle length is dependent on the crankset. Since you have both, it should work.

I can meet in the morning but will probably not ride on Sunday. I'm incredibly brain dead today and not very decisive so you are going to have to make the arrangements. I'm best in the morning. Thanks!
