It looks like we're going to get dumped on for pretty much the next twelve hours straight, and I'd had a 10am Wakefield ride in mind for tomorrow since a couple of weeks ago. I don't spend much time there, and my only bad-weather experience at Wake was a week after the hurricane hit in '03 (it was pretty unrideable)... anybody more local than I am have a good guess as to my chances?

With a long and steady rain during the overnight, I'd say the trails won't be ridable. Group rides have been canceled for less, so keep that in mind and ride responsibly.

If it stops raining overnight and the sun is out for a couple hours before you ride, the trails may be ok. I went out Tuesday after the rains and the trails at Wakefield and Accotink were mostly dry or slightly damp. The only places with standing water or mud were the various cinder trails. It is typically wetter during the mid-winter night rides.

No idea, but things are drying out here in Manassas. I would expect the trails to be ok within an hour or two.

Wakefleld was bone dry friday and should be able to handle a 1/4 inch or so...if it looks a little wet when you arrive do a quick loop around Lake Accotink first. By the time you get back Wakefield should be fine.

...and they were LOVELY. A few wet spots in the really shady sections (and by wet spots I'm thinking maybe eight inches on a side, easily bunnyhoppable). It was sunny and breezy enough today that all the rain did was keep the dust settled.

Stop reading this page! Get out and ride, it's BEAUTIFUL outside!

When I went at 3pm, it was dry everywhere (thanks wind)... even the usual muddy spots were dry (Salamander was dry, for heaven's sake). I couldn't believe it.
