Hey guys, I have a K2 Apache 5.0 and my crankset is a Truvativ Firex Giga X.

While I was on my way to needwood park, the bolt unbolted(lost) and the left arm/pedal just fell. I'm new to biking and didnt really pay attention to that bolt before.

Now, is that bolt available in bike shops like performancebike and/or other shops or will i have to buy a new crackset?

Thanks in Advance.

The exact same thing happened to my friend, unfortunately in the middle of a Half-Ironman Triathlon. There actually are two bolts that hold the crank arm on, and I believe that the second one helps hold the first one in place or keep it from unscrewing itself. (There also may be a washer involved, so you'll want to make sure you get the complete crank arm bolt assembly.) In trying to help my friend, I pulled the installation instructions from SRAM, and you have to really crank the first bolt on (something like 400 foot pounds), and then you put the second one on. If you've lost both, you can buy these bolts online by doing a search, but it seems to me that a good bike shop should have them in stock. Interestingly enough, SRAM sells these bolt assemblies in pairs, which suggests that lost crank arm bolts are not an isolated incident. I've assembed both FSA and Shimano external bearing cranks, and never had this sort of problem. Fortunately, my Stylo crank on my MTB seems to be holding on just fine!

You can probably get one at a local shop. You DO NOT need to get a new crankset. I have a few extras lying around for that crankset, bottom bracket. I'd be happy to mail you one if you can't get one locally..

There actually are two bolts that hold the crank arm on, and I believe that the second one helps hold the first one in place or keep it from unscrewing itself.

For the Giga X, there should only be one crank arm bolt (8mm Hex wrench) inside a "self extractor" (16mm Hex wrench) which is not used to lock the crank arm bolt - it is there only to assist the removal of the left crank arm. When you unscrew the crank arm bolt, it presses against the extractor and pulls the crank arm off the spindle. If your left crank arm just fell off and the bolt is missing, you most likely lost the self extractor and crank arm bolt washer too. Details and manuals for the FireX are available on-line (http://www.sram.com/en/truvativ/mtbcranksets/firex/33tm.php).

If Brizn's bolts don't work, your local bike shop is probably the best bet. A LBS can also look at the whole crankset (to make sure there isn't more wrong than the obvious) and install the replacement washer, bolt and extractor.
