im new to Mt biking,and i want to pick up some barends, but i dont know how to install them. Do i have to cut the Grips?

It depends. You do have to move the grips in, it they have closed ends you must defnetely need to cut off the closed ends. You should not cut the grips while they are on the bar, a knife or other blade can damage the bars and lead to them failing.
Some people like to cut the grips shorter so they do not have to move their shifters and brake levers further in on the bar. Personally I leave my grips the stock length and kjust move in the shifters & levers.

Your LBS's also have grips without ends, if you don't want to cut the ones you have.

thanks guys, i never thought to move the brake and shifter. my grips do have ends on them so ill have to go to bike doctor this week and pick up some new grips.

depending on how much $$$ you want to drop, and your reason behind bar ends, Cane Creek Ergo II's actually serve as the bar end locking clamp for ODI lock-on grips (or any lock-on grip using ODI's locking system).
