I rode Quantico on Saturday, Aug 11th. There were a number of downed trees, especially to the right as you leave the Child Development Center. There were some puddles near the trail, so there must have been some recent storms. I also saw two turtles on the trail. Fortunately I was poking along and had not trouble missing them.

Yeah, when I got to work Saturday morning Quantico was soaked. SG, what time did you end up riding? After work, I was debating whether to get a ride in on the way out at Quantico or go to Fountainhead instead. Ended up going to fountainhead because I haven't been in awhile.

I *meant* to go early, but it wasn't so early afterall. I had a few errands to run in the morning. Then, because of the errands along the way, I took 7100/123 down instead of 234. MISTAKE!!! I-95S was PACKED. It took forever. I think I started 12:22. Worse yet, was that when I finished I phoned a friend and we decided to go to an early movie. So I had to head north to Arlington. While riding I-95N also became PACKED. I spent a lot of time on the road yesterday. :(

Well, you said last week you felt like riding alone over the weekend - too bad it was in the car :p !
Seriously...
Cranky Monkey No. 4 is coming up. I avoid 95 on the weekends so I've never ridden Quantico. Can you elaborate on the EX2 description?
...9 mile lap around a fun, challenging, and semi-technical single track loop.
...includes twisty singletrack, log ramps, several steep hills, and long fire road sections.
This makes it sound like the WF Bowl with some double track thrown in. Is it fast, slow, trail, wooded, open, HT friendly, SS friendly, passing opportunities...? I know there's no substitute for riding but I trust your judgement.

It is a little bit of everything. Fast, slow (on the climbs), open and wooded. It really does have a varied terrain.
It is doable on a SS, I did the 12 hours of Cranky on my SS. Of course I only ride SS, so, take that for what it's worth. The loop is very hilly. There are a few big climbs on the utility road and after a big log pyramid. You feel like you are constantly climbing or descending short, somewhat steep hills. Very little in the way of flat cruising. Plenty of areas to pass, very open in that regard. Single track and lots of double track and a couple fire roads thrown into the mix.
Be mindful of the sandy soil when you go into some of the fast downhill turns. If it is dry, you can and will wash out quickly.
It is a fun place to ride/race and if I were to do any of the CM races this year, it would be the one at Quantico.

I also did the 12 hours of CM on a SS. The course was great. The description I got before the event was a mix between Schaeffer and Fountainhead. After doing a bunch of laps, I'd agree. It's not as rocky as Fountainhead, but has it's share of steep, long stuff. Not as smooth as Schaeffer, but there are sections you can get up to some good speed for a while.
I've been meaning to get back down there since the race. It was a fun place to ride. I was on my rigid 29er riding 32:18. I think if I did it again, I'd bump down to 32:19, but it would also depend on the length of the race. If they run the course the same way, the bottleneck up the climbs at the start really hurt on SS.
