The Bike Lane/MORE announces the Monday Night Junior Ride

Pace: Various with at least one Casual group
Difficulty: Easier
Contact: Frank Raiti, frank.raiti@comcast.net, 703-217-1033 or info@thebikelane.com
Location: Wakefield Park, VA
Time: 6 pm

Open to all riders ages 10-18 years old: Join us on Monday nights at Wakefield for The Bike ane/MORE-led youth ride. This will be an excellent opportunity for our younger riders to get out on the trails with their peers, challenge each other and build lasting friendships around our beloved sport. Riders should be MORE members.

Pace: We know that skills and speed will vary greatly across a group like this, so we plan to form as many skill-based groups as our supply of riders and adult ride-leaders will allow. There will always be at least one Casual-pace group. All groups will be no-drop, which means that rides will be carefully paced and no one will be left behind.

Terrain: Wakefield is generally considered easier to intermediate by most riders. There are a few small stream crossings and some log obstacles. Riders should use good judgment and dismount when in doubt. The ride will typically consist of a mix of singletrack, fireroads, and other trail sections in the park. There are climbs that some people may find challenging, but they are few in number.

Ride Leaders: The core group of ride-leaders have been working with The Bike Lane’s Junior Race Team and have built up a wealth of experience working with kids on the trails. Most of these leaders have young riders of their own, so parents can feel safe while riders can look forward to a rewarding experience.

Parents– while this will be a great opportunity for your kids to ride without you, we may ask you to join us as a sweeper if need be.

As always, all riders MUST wear a helmet and bring water – NO EXCEPTIONS. We also ask that you bring a trail-ready mountain bike and all the essentials, including tubes, pump, and tools. Don’t worry too much if you don’t know how to use them yet, we won’t mind lending you a hand.

Very Important:
1. The standard MORE waivers, signed by a parent or guardian, is MANDATORY. If you’re not planning to bring your parent to the trailhead, you MUST print out the MORE waiver and have your parent sign their name, print their name print, and date under your name. You MUST bring it with you before you will be allowed to join us. Also please include a parents phone number or an emergency contact number.
2. It is critical that you RSVP so that we can plan for an appropriate number of ride leaders. If a much larger number of riders show up than we had planned for, your ride may suffer, as the group(s) will be bigger and slower than desired.

Tonight is the last Juniors Monday evening ride for the season. Unless we decide to do some night riding......

Meet at 5:30 by the recycling bins. Don't forget your waiver if you have not turned on in.

See you tonight,
Anne

BTW: please post up if you are interested in doing junior night rides. If there is enough interest and a few volunteers to keep it going we will.

French Anne and I are putting together a list of rides for youths in PG County for TFK. We ride Saturday or Sundays at either Rosaryville and Fairland. We are also trying to get mid-week rides going as well. You can check the TFK PG website for more info and ride dates.
