Hey folks.
Kristina asked me about her hubs last night and I found this page. I thought it might be a help to those with questions about Chris King components.

Kristina: if you want me to adjust your hubs, I can take a look at them on the Thursday night Ride. Sorry I wasn't able to do it last night.
Peace!

The movies are also very useful as they actually show you whats going on. Specifically the ones on adjusting the front and rear hubs.
Kristina, I have the full hub service tool kit and should you wish to learn more about them/overhaul them, let me know.

Yup! The videos are great. Though they're not quite as entertaining as this (http://www.rathergood.com/moon_song/).
Catch you later.

Love the rathergood website! I think Zep made him take down the best one though...

I managed to save it though, for my own personal viewing of course...haha.

Oh man I love that one. It even makes my wife laugh and she thinks most of them are idiotic.
The only things that the Chris King videos are missing are good music and kittens in viking costumes. That would spice up their web site a little.
Thanks for posting up the Viking Kittens. I wondered where it went. I'm guessing that Robert Plant and Jimmy Page or their record company had a thing or two to do with its disappearance.

That thing's great - I'm keeping it!
My 2-year-old thinks this is the greatest thing since Blue's Clues:

Hey guys,
I've got a set of King hubs and the rear hub seems like it's got way too much play in it (side to side). I think I've got grit in the hub and need to overhaul it, but haven't done this for King hubs before. Should I :
a) take the hub to a shope like Race Pace and have them do the overhaul
b) try to do it myself using the videos online
or
c) ask one of y'all to coach me through it, or meet up somewhere and hope that someone will let me use their KK hub tools.

I have a toolkit and could show you how to make them run like new. If you plan on riding them between no w and overhauling them, I HIGHLY recommend resetting the preload on the bearings. This is easy to do and only requires a pair of 5mm hex keys.
Take the wheel off, remove the q/r
Stick a 5mm allen in each end of the axle
Turn them counter-clockwise to loosen the axle
Once loose, hold the drive side end of the axle and snug down the adjusting ring on the non-drive side
Once snug, re-tighten both halves of the axle, you'll need to get it pretty tight
This should remove the side to side play in the hub
If the hub feels "tight", repeat the process but lighten up the tension on the adjusting ring just a bit.
I live in VA just off the beltway at exit 50A
