just wondering if the trails towards the viaduct/rt.1 & beyond would be worth exploring?

Not really. I've been down there more than a few times and ridden pretty much all that is down there. I call them the apocalypse trails. People dump all kinds of crap back there, illegally ride ATV's and very little is maintained. This is the stuff wedged between Furnace Rd. and Ridge Rd.

On the North side of the river running behind the old Calvert Distillery (Diagio now) there's some trail that parallels the river and will lead you back to Halethorpe Farm ponds and near the old Tuborg plant. Watch out for high speed trail crossings and a deep tributary crossing plus garbage the further downstream you go. We would sometimes do this in the winter on cross bikes when it snowed for an adventure ride.

None of it will be mistaken for high quality trail.

Some folks are hoping for bike rail trail to Balto city through this area. A work in progress.
