Ladies, come ride with Julie and Kathy at
the Frederick Watershed on Sunday 6/10 @ 10:00
sponsored by The Bicycle Escape
(http://www.thebicycleescape.com/). We will be meeting
at the Hamburg Rd. parking area and plan to have
wheels down at 10:15.
If you're an intermediate female rider, but you've been
too intimidated to join one of the MORE rides at the
Shed, this ride that Julie and Kathy are leading is for
you! We'll be riding at a casual pace and regroup as
needed. We'll also stop to play on some of the more
technical sections.
Feel free to e-mail Kathy with any questions -

Oops, it was pointed out to me that I will be gone that weekend-doh! I thought it was this weekend. Guess I didn't read it thoroughly. :o
I'I’ll be on Mackinac Island in Michigan. I’ll probably ride a bike while there since there are no vehicles allowed but it won’t be quite the same. My mom and two sisters are going and my mom already said she wants to be on a tandem bike with me. Guess I will be getting a work out at least since my mom is not a bike rider! ;)

I can't believe this hasn't had a stronger response. C'mon ladies, the Shed is some of the finest riding in the DC area! :)

I'm supposed to be diving every weekend, both Sat and Sun until my sump trip so the 10 am kinda screws up that Saturday for me. But I will see if I can fit it in. I would definitely like to attend.

If you're worried because you've never ridden at the Shed before but consider yourself an intermediate rider I really suggest you come out. I led a ride just like this for RLAG in April and everyone had a great time and tried at least one TTF that they were scared of and were able negotiate successfully! :D

I'll be at Big Bear, running support for my team members (http://grannygear.com/Register/show_teams.php?race=bigbear&year=2007&team_name=SSO+Factory+Team%2FThe+Bi cycle+Escape), so I'll have to miss this ride. Let me know when you'll be out there again, since I think I'm ready! I just got the Frogs on my bike and putz'd around the neighborhood. I still need to get used to them they feel different than my SPDs.
Have a great ride all!

Julie and Kathy are great women to ride with and patient. If I wasn't going to be out of town I'd be there. :)

Casual rides at the Shed happen about once every 6-12 months, so be sure to take advantage of this one if you can!

Thanks Cathie! Those trails are just so good I want to encourage more women to ride there. To be honest, if we hadn't moved to Frederick last year and they became my "home trails" I would probably still be too intimidated to ride there. But after riding there and learning how to negotiate some of the rock gardens and rock/log piles I've grown to love riding there. Although I'm the first to admit that there's still plenty of stuff out there beyond my current skill level - but I'm working on it! :D

I am supposed to be on an airplane to FL right now, but I just couldn't pull it off. So I *will* be able to make the shed ride, barring any unforeseen incidents.
I kept hearing all impressions of the shed and Gambrill being so hard. And a few spots are pretty tricky. But it's a *great* place to ride. It really improves your skills. For me, there are rocks that you ride because you can. There are rocks that you ride because you're clipped in and you have to. There are rocks you can't today, but will someday. And rocks you never will. It's all part of the fun. So, then when you ride somewhere else, you suddenly discover that you're a much better rider!
If you're a beginner noob-type, you don't want to ride there. But if you've been riding a little bit, it's not some horror place that's waiting to kill you. The people who have the problems do so because they go wild out there. People who act normal on the trails do just fine.

So 7 women showed up for the ride today and we had a fantastic time. A few mechanicals in the beginning, but once we go rolling fun was had by all! Thanks to all the ladies who came out for the ride!

JulieRah, yeah, thanks! The semi-noobs (not quite noobs, but not super experienced either--anyone have a better name?) were AWESOME!
Turns out the funny noise my bike was making was the chain rubbing on my tire when I grunted up the hills. It's all adjusted now.
Hope to do it again soon!
