Hi, all. I'm in the market for a work stand, and thought I'd see if anyone here wanted to gives cheers or jeers to any particular models. I've looked back through the archives here, and see nods given to the Ultimate Pro & Pedro's stands. I'm also (of course) looking at Park stands, but not sure which of the half dozen models on offer. I'll be using it frequently (probably twice a week or more), but portability isn't too much of a concern. Thoughts?

Without a doubt go for the ultimate pro- bite the bullet. I had a park consumer stand for years and it was fine but i outgrew it - got an Ultimate Pro from Santa and its awesome - ease of use is amazing, adjustable in every which way and it does compact nicely for portability....!!! Not cheap but spend the money !!

I'll throw in a second for the Ultimate Pro Elite. I love mine. Size, configuration, weight and more. I just don't know how this stand can be beat? Pricey, yes, but well worth it.

Ultimate Pro is my #1 too. Packs up small. three legged base is always steady even on rough ground. The slide then screw clamp is very quick and easy to use. Nice red colour too!

Wow, pretty nice. After my next few purchases one of those is on my list. Here's a sight with pretty good deals on em that I found comparing 3 models.

By the way, I now have a Park PCS-1 available, if anyone is interested. :)

Performance Bikes sells the Ultimate stands under their house name "Spin Doctor". I think they call it the G3.
My brother has the Spin Doctor version of the Ultimate stand and I have the Park consumer stand. Long story short, I can do any job I want on my Park stand, but his is nicer/lighter/more stable.
On the other hand, there is nothing to break on the Park stand while the Ultimate has a lot of moving parts.

While the Spin Doctor G3 is similar to the Ultimates I would definitely not say they are the same. The clamping head on the Ultimate is all metal and doesn't have any little small parts bins. It has a counter-weighted 3 wing lock bolt that can spin tight/lose like a nascar pit crew changing tires. It locks down fast, snug and securely. Also, I believe the Ultimate opens larger than just about any other work stand. The tripod base is about the only thing I would compare with the G3. I'm not saying anything bad about the G3, it is a very nice stand, however the clamping head/arm of the Pro Elite is what separates it from the pack. It's the only difference between the regular "Pro" model in Ultimates line but it makes a HUGE difference.

You sure the G3 is the same stand, it looks familair, but almost 100 cheaper retail, and its on sale for $139 at the moment... Seems awfully cheap...

Agree w/ this entirely - its what really makes the Pro Elite!! Its easy to close, opens w/ a push button, spins 360 degrees, holds all kinds of tubes etc. FWIW...the Mavic neutral support crew at Cross Nationals in Providence last year were using these and just watching those guys fix my bike fast w/ that stand made the decision for me. I know they got it free likely but could have had any stand for free...they chose this one.

I could be wrong.
The Ultimate Pro is $210 and the Pro G3 is normally $200, but on sale for $140. They look like the same thing to me.

...I'm not trying to push the stand, just support my conclusion that they are the same/similar

You're looking at the Pro while most of us have been talking about the Pro Elite.

There is a big difference between the two models in the clamping arm. That's where the difference in price comes into play.
Also, I agree with you that they are similar, just not the same. Ultimate could very well be the manufacturer of the SpinDoctor stand.
