I just got my bike all ready for the first ride of the season. I head out around 3:30, didn't get there until 4:30 due to traffic. As I drive in the park, I see the mtb trail is closed. SWEET! Got all pumped and drove out for nothing. Just a heads up, I dunno when it will open again. I did write down the trail conditions number. I will definitely call that for now on before I make the trek out there.

The number is 703-250-2473 then press 1.

Hopefully it's open tomorrow...I gotta ride.

Hotline still says it's closed this morning. Anyone know what's up there?

Hotline still says it's closed this morning. Anyone know what's up there?Well, I know I'm just guessing, but we did get more than 2 inches of rain last weekend. So I'd surmise that it would take more than a couple days to dry and be ridable. It's been windy, but it's cold and the trees really are barely starting to leaf out, so I think patience is in order, unfortunately.

I tried looking in the woods as I drove to work this morning. There were huge standing puddles (lakes) of water.

I was thinking of riding last Saturday before the rain came in but the machine said it was closed also.

FH usually dries out quickly, maybe they are some big trees down? Or maybe the answering maching dude is on PTO.

Brian, my assistant, and I did a partial assessment of the Fh trails yesterday. The trails are fairly dry but yes, there are many, many, big trees down which is why it is closed. We hope to take care of them by Sunday.

Until then, I’ll ask the park ranger if he’ll open the trails. If he does, just keep in mind what might be around the next turn. ~tom
