I just recieved this request from the race director:

Do you think you and any of the folks that you know up there would be willing to commit to helping with the race on race day? I just went over the volunteer list with the Vol Coordinator, and we have two main areas where we need people. We need a couple more over 18 yr old Course Marshals for the 12pm to 3:15 pm timeframe of the UCI Elite race, plus we need about 4 more over 18 adults to be "Anti-Doping Chaperones" for the selected racers for testing. We got notice yesterday that they will indeed be testing 10 riders. The Chaperone basically just sticks with the rider, from when they finish the race until when they report for testing, which must be within 60 minutes of completing the race. Hanging out with one of our top contenders for going to the Olympics doesn't sound like a bad job to me.

So if you want an excuse to come out and see the race up close and personal, or are racing and have an SO that would be bored waiting for everything to be over otherwise, or just like lending a helping hand, please step forward. Personally I think it would be fun to chaperone a pro, and then root for him/her in the olympics (yes women pros too). A course marshall is out on the course at a critical spot to make sure racers go the correct way, dont cut the course, provide encouragement, and radio for help in case of emergency. I have seen pros race from out on the course and it is pretty durn impressive. Alot better than just being at the start/finish transition on the grass. You can write back to me, or to the race director directly at:

The race is April 29, 2007 at Greenbrier State Park, Boonesboro MD.

As an added incentive, the race director said if you work four or more hours for the race (and this includes trailwork, so some of you are already there), then you get a free race entry. Work can be designated to someone, so if your SO volunteers for the race, they can designate the free race entry to you, and you ride for free.

Also I noticed that the pro/expert race is between all the other races, so you can still help out with the UCI category and still be able to race.

When do you need a reply?

And will they take last minute, day off race volunteers?

Since it is a UCI race and an olympic qualifier, there are several key positions that are required for it to be a valid race, these are essential that they be filled, so by race day that have to ensure there are enough adult people to fill these spots, so I am certain they would like to know ASAP, otherwise they will start to get really nervous about staffing.
On the other hand, I am sure they will not turn down any help on race day. However many you have, you will still be short-handed.

Just so no one has to go find it elsewhere, please post the race date.

Thanks.

You will, of course, find a way to take or rent a bike if you just MUST go to Utah.

My wife and I will be camping at the park the entire weekend. I will be happy to lend a hand or foot or whatever on Saturday, and will also do what I can on
Sunday. I am still not sure what event I will race in but It doesnt matter. I only do it for the fun anyway. Dave Marchyshyn. Cell 301-509-3191, Camp loop C space number 36, Cell phones rarely work inside the park.

Actually, I was planning on finding out if someone had a case that would fit my niner rip9 :) However, this all depends on where I end up in Utah, its a business trip (or 4) over the next month or 2, if I am in a location with no riding, I will not be able to make any side trips, so hopefully it will be somewhere I can ride :D

Speaking of which.. where are the good places in Utah to ride.....

Bump!

The race director is still trying to get all the volunteers that are needed lined up. You can see all the pros attending here (http://www.more-mtb.org/forum/showpost.php?p=65560&postcount=1). he said he still needs confirmation of people (male and female) to be the pro's "chaperones", basically stick with them after the race until they go to drug testing. So if you are willing and able, please write to him and tell him. Jim Carlson -- jcarlsonida AT yahoo DOT com
