basically i'm just getting back into Mtn biking and have been looking for deals on bikes as my older gary fisher hardtail doesnt fit me anymore. i raced xc on it as a teenager but i'm 22 now and have out grown it. it seems about like a 17 inch frame from just measuring it and i'm always ache-y in my back after a ride. anyway, i came across an 03 specialized enduro comp, completely stock as it came from specialized. guy wants 1200 for it that seems steep to me for its age but i'm not sure on values. but from my limited knowledge (i'm not up on things, i was maybe 5-7 years ago) the bike looks like a pretty heavy abuse kind of bike. i'd like full suspension, but its supposedly about 29 lbs. sounds heavy to me. and if i'm getting back into xc riding, is that too much of a bike? i'll likely ride at gambrill, schaffer, and hoyles mill. i haven't ridden gambrill yet but its the closest to where i just moved to.

anyways, sorry to be a little long winded, but any advice is greatly appreciated. thanks!

also, after getting out of xc racing i started bmx dirt jumping and some street riding, so i'm used to jumping and whatnot, just got out of that due to a horribly broke shoulder and arm and lots of physical therapy that didn't fix me completely right. but, only mentioned this because i can and do jump, but don't aim to solely jump this bike. i'm not saying i ride XC and only want to distance ride, i enjoy single track and mud and terrain alot, most of my riding experience is up in new england. around here i've ridden black hills and schaffer a few times and have always been bored, i don't know if i pick the wrong trails or what. but just trying to give an idea of my riding style.

I'd point you towards a Stumpjumper FSR. Something 05 or newer. Enduros are rad bikes but they ain't race-ready for most of the stuff that's around here. You can abuse the Stump FSR bikes and do most of what you want to do and not worry about it.

Good luck.

Punga has THRASHED his stump fsr and he's had some problems... the same problems he's had with skateboards and cars since I've known him...

I guess it's only been 20 years or so...

Ride with Punga. If you don't ride LIKE punga, stick with the stump fsr. Hell, his first bike only lasted 4 months. At least this one has made it a few years...
