06/16/04>>> Hi everyone! I've just returned from a weeks vacation at Douthat St. Park in Va. and the trails there are just fantastic!
There's enough trails there to keep one entertained for at least a week. I've ridden other venues in The George Washington National Forest but I've not seen trails that were so perfectly laid out as these. If you didn't know better you'd swear that they were constructed with Mountain biking in mind, however such was not the case. All these trails were built over 70 yrs. ago by the Civilian Conservation Corp. All of the trails I saw were single track and all were very rideable. This area has it all, epic descents, epic climbs, epic views, epic terrain. It's almost better than sex...(almost). Oh what the hell, it is better than sex. :D >> I realize that MORE is going to sponsor a group meet at Douthat this year. I would of probably done that but I had already planned this trip from the previous year. If you need more information on Douthat go to their web site at>> http://www.dcr.state.va.us/parks/douthat.htm
Oh, and if you decided to go and camp there, make sure you make reservations and make sure you bring some spare bike stuff. ( tubes, brake pads, tires) The nearest bike shop is like 25 miles away. One last comment...make sure you pronounce the name right. It is pronounced> Dow-th(it) < If you pronounce this differently, the locals give you a strange look. :o The picture is a view from a trail called, "The Mountain Side Trail". If you see no picture than Martin hasn't fixed that problem yet.
