View Full Version : Oil leak - Manitou Minute 2:00 - suggestions?

I have a 2005 Minute 2:00 with probably only about 100 Fountainhead miles on it. I just noticed some oil at the bottom of one of the legs of the casting.

I'm sure I'm within the warranty period, but the thought of being without a ride during the turnaround time is a downer.

Any suggestions on what to look for in particular if I tear it down?

Any input appreciated.

Best regards,
Eric

I sent mine is to have the serviced. I lucked out and got back a new model with the larger stanchions as a warranty replacement. If I was you I'd send it back.

Do like I did: return it for the 3rd time and get a brand new RS Revelation 424 ;)

Seriously, my Minute 2:00 went back to Manitou 3 times, and on the 3rd time, I told the shop I had no confidence in the fork any more. Manitou had already committed replacing it, so when it came back, we agreed to swap them straight up. Spec wise, the Minute was great on paper: 3.4 lbs, 5 inches travel, but it just never seemed to get past the mechanical issues. In my case, it usually harsh sounds, sometimes topping out, other times compressing.

punga!

I just sent an email to Manitou tech support to start the warranty repair process. I guess I'll send it back after this Saturday's clinic, which I was lucky enough to get into. I just hope I don't blow out a seal by then.

After I bought this fork last summer I started seeing a lot of negative comments about Manitou forks. I'll just have to see how it works out.

By the way, since Hayes bought Answer/Manitou, It's hard to even find Manitou's website. For anyone who needs it, it's here (http://www.hbsuspension.com).

Thanks for the input.

I have had two big M forks that died lickety split. I'll never buy another bike so outfitted. I sent one of them back 3x and they never got it right. I finally replaced it with a Talas RLC. That made the bike just a weeeeeeeeeeee bit nicer.

In fairness, I have a Swinger 3 way rear shock on one bike and I have had ZERO problems with it.

It's a shame, because I'll see what would otherwise be a nice bike and then I see the big M fork and just say, "Oh well, skip it".

For what it's worth I have been very happy with the performance of my forks overall. I have had two warranty issues both were resolved pretty quick. The last one resulted in me getting a new version of the fork with the bigger stanctions.. All in all I'm pretty happy.

I had a Manitou fork. The little piece that arcs over the wheel and ties the 2 posts together snapped off after a bad crash. It was about 2 years old but I sent them an email I told them what happened. I said I thought it should be more durable and last longer. Basically I was just venting my frustration and didn't expect anything from it. OK, I secretly was hoping for a coupon or something. They emailed back asking for contact information. I gave it to them and the next day they called me and offered to replace the fork free of charge. I didn't see that coming. They really stand behind their product. I don't think you should have any problems with them honoring the warranty.
