Beginner Clinic with Hillary Elgert--Frederick Watershed, Sandflats Parking Lot
This clinic was cancelled last Saturday, due to deep snow in Frederick. Some riders can't make the new date, so we're opening up registration again (click on the link below).
This clinic is for someone who is pretty comfortable on the bike and has some experience riding off-road. We will cover things like small logs in the trail, negotiating rock gardens, cornering, and braking. Clinic is limited to 15 women. You will need to bring your mountain bike, a helmet, and water. For more information email Liz or Hillary. RSPV required, sign up at: http://thebikesite.org/sign_up_rlag2/
Schaeffer Farms Log Ride
I’m hoping Schaeffer will be open and the trails hardened by then. We are going to ride a casual pace on a log-heavy route and stop and work on as many as we can in 90 minutes. We'll return to the parking lot, then whomever wants to can join me on a 60-90 minute conditioning ride, casual-to-moderate pace with only a couple of stops. I have to be leave by 1:30. Depending on how many riders come, we will have one or two groups.
IF Schaeffer is not open AND rideable, Anne Mader will lead a ride at Fountainhead. I'll send more info if the MD ride is cancelled.
Location Information: Schaeffer Farms is an extremely popular mountain biking and equestrian destination with several excellent singletrack loops covering almost 12 miles of rolling terrain. Trails offer something for all levels, but tend toward fast and smooth hardpack singletrack, with moderate climbs, and a good number of log and ramped log hops. Some technical sections will require beginners to dismount, but intermediates should find most sections rideable and challenging.

Oops, sorry, 10 am.I sure would love to be there. I would love to practice and improve on logs, but I have duties with the Conway Robinson workday that starts at 9 am! :)
Hopefully there will be more log practices!

It's looking good for our log ride on Saturday. I'm headed out to ride there this morning, we'll see how the trails look.
There is a slight change of plans: instead of going on a ride after the log part, I'm going to head over the cell tower and join in the trailwork there. Everyone is welcome, and encouraged! to join me. Details are on the calendar.

I have friends in town so will be doing "tourist" stuff this weekend. Otherwise I would have been there.

I'm not going to call off the Schaeffer Log Ride...yet. But, IF we get any rain tonight, or IF it's raining tomorrow morning at all.....no ride. Schaeffer is, IMHO, right on the edge of being dry enough to ride, anything more will leave more trace than I care to. And we don't want to create more trailwork. (Speaking of... the trailwork is rain or shine tomorrow!)
I'll post up by 8 tomorrow with a go/no go.

Sorry ladies, I'm going to call it now. It's been raining here off and on all day, a pattern that's supposed to continue into tomorrow, and the grass around my house is very squashy. No Schaeffer ride tomorrow. We will do the same ride NEXT SUNDAY at 9:15 am. Please sacrifice something to the weather gods between now and then!

We're going to try to do the Schaeffer Log Ride this Sunday, April 1, at 9:15 am. Meet at the trailhead: we're going to practice riding over logs for an hour or two, then Anne Mader will hopefully lead a short ride afterwards. I can't stick around, I have to be at work at 12.
There will only be one group for this ride, probably casual, definitely no-drop!

I'm planning to be there and giving it a try! If I can't participate in the log riding - I can still watch and learn! Thanks!

I hope to be there, too! In fact since I couldn't make it last weekend, it'll be better for me, *this* weekend. Hope to see you there, Dharmie! I haven't seen you in forever! :)

This weather is not making it any easier to call this one.... It didn't rain here all night, and it's just cloudy now. The hour-by-hour says it will be raining at 9 am, but then again, it said it would rain last night, so...
I'm headed out to Schaeffer early to get a quick ride in, I'll be back at the parking lot at 9:15. We are going to do a warm-up loop, then come back to the parking lot to pick up Anne and any latecomers.
IF it is sprinkling, we will ride, the trails are dry enough to handle that. If it really pours, we'll have to stop.

Sorry I missed it today. I had a stupid little fall yesterday, the fall wasn't bad until my chest landed on the end of my handle bar. OUCH.
Luckily it's just a bad bruise not another broken rib but I was too sore to ride at Schaeffer.

I still like the idea of doing this every month or so. Let's do it again, and maybe you can make it then!
Heal up quickly!
By the way, did your fall wind up looking this bad???? I did the same thing a couple years ago. OUCH! It took a couple hours before I was "normal" again. I was kinda wigged out for a while.

Ouuch! Darn, that looks like it hurt Squirrel Girl!
Sorry, I could not make it out on Sunday. I was really looking forward to it. My daughter was under the weather so I had to stay home and play Mommy.
Saturday, I am leading a RLAG ride at Greenbrair at 10 am. Come join, it should be fun. We'll ride the race loop once or twice.
