Does anyone know a painter willing to give a bike a cheap, white powder coat w/ a couple of layers of white paint and a clear coat? I have a new cheap street bike that I want to paint, and soon. Thanks

I've always used ASCO in Manassas, Va. Don't know what you think cheap is, so not sure if they the cheapest. FWIW, powdercoating goes on in one coat. You don't need a couple of layers of powder like you do with paint. Last time I used them there were in the $85 a frame range, cheaper if they were already painting that color on something larger.

Do you need to strip the old paint off the frame?

I have used Final Touch Powder Coat several times. Their prices are very good and the quality is top notch! http://www.finaltouchpowdercoating.com/

Sorry for the delayed response to everyone, I was away from my computer all day. I'm not sure if I need to strip the paint off, it is a newish frame with pretty much unscathed paint, its just an ugly green/brown. Would it be a good idea to strip this off so when the powdercoat white goes on it wont end up darkening the look of the new paint (I don't know much about the powdercoating process). I'll check out the links that have been provided too. Thanks for all the info.

Factory paint can be very difficult to strip! The quickest way to get it off is taking it to a strip shop to submerge it in a chemical bath. A powdercoater will do this to the frame for you. Over the counter paint strippers aren't very effective so it takes days rather than hours and a lot of scrubbing.
