I bought an almost-new set of Hayes So1e disc brakes for my beater street bike, only problem is the fork on this bike is a new Manitou (so it has post mount), and the caliper has IS tabs. Does anyone know of an adapter that will work (so far I have been told by my LBS that nothing will allow me to use the IS-tab brake caliper with the post mount, but I am skeptical)? Luckily, my rear brake (already on the bike when I bought it) is Hayes post-mount, so worst comes to worst I swap that to the front, and get the new So1e bled and a new, longer cable mounted and put it on the rear (which has IS tabs). I'm trying to avoid that though, since an adapter would be ~$15 and a bleed/new cable would be a good $55 at my LBS. Thanks for any advice

You can get an adapter for the Manitou fork. The exact adapter depends upon what size rotor you have. Here is one: http://www.pricepoint.com/detail/14307-115_HAYMT5-3-Parts-158-Brakes/Disc/Hayes-Disc-Brake-Adapter-8-Inch-Post-Mount-Forks.htm

Just to be clear, are the IS tabs built into the caliper, or does it have an adapter? I was under the impression that all of Hayes brakes were post mount with an adapter for IS, which allows you to use the same caliper for different rotor sizes using a different adapter size.

All the pictures of the Sole that I could find showed the caliper as post mount. If it is, all you need to do is remove the IS adapter and screw the caliper directly to the fork.

Actually, I just replaced a set of Hayes hydraulics on one bike and have the adapter for a Manitou post mount fork for an 8" rotor (I think it is 8"). If that is the size you need, send me a pm or email and you are more than welcome to it. I am in Alexandria.

As far as adapters, I believe that Jabberwockey is correct, Hayes brakes come set up for post mounts, but you need an adapter depending upon the rotor size you use.

Sorry for the confusion...the caliper has the IS tabs built into it (see picture). I think it is the model from last year or the year before, before Hayes moved solely to post mount. John, is your adapter to allow hayes w/ post mounts to run 8" on a post-mount fork, or an adapter to allow hayes w/ IS mounts to run 8" on a post mount fork? If it is the latter, I would gladly take the adapter off your hands and just use a bigger rotor (I'm sure I have one laying around somewhere).

Unfortunately, I am sitting in the office writing a brief so I can't answer the question right now. I will check when I get home and let you know. I also know that I have at least 2 extra rotors sitting around.

Hmmm... One option would be to simply swap the hoses from your rear brake to the front (assuming the two have the same fitting), essentially swapping calipers. If you are careful, you shouldn't have to bleed the brakes, either.

Also, it looks like a company called a2z components (http://www.a2zcomponents.com/ada.htm) makes various adapters to convert post mount to IS. I came across them on mtbr; maybe you can search for more info there.

Bad luck for me - The rear is mech, and the So1e is hydro. That link is great, just what I was looking for. Green dot for you.

Sorry, the adapter I have is for the post mount caliper, but for the bigger rotor. You can probably get the adapter from the link that Jabberwocky posted, though.
