This may be a stupid question, but here goes. I just picked up some new bar tape for a new cross check build. Come to find out that it doesn't have a sticky backing like I've always used. Should I place double sided tape or adhesive on the drop bars before applying or will a tight wrap job hold the tape sufficiently? I'm thinking if I wrap the bars well, adhesive shouldn't be necessary, but what do I know!?
Thanks folks for any help!

Just wrap tightly and with proper overlap and it should stay in place.

When I wrapped the bars on my fixie, the wrapping didn't have a sticky backing. The secret is to wrap them in the correct direction, so the natural twisting motion of your hands gripping the bars tightens the tape.

Thanks! Funny, but I always wrapped the drop portion of my bars in the opposite direction. I've never had a problem with the grip slipping and it seems like (contrary to what park says) my hands always want to rotate out when in the drops.

Look further down in the instructions. In the bottom portion, under advanced techniques, they wrap outward for the same reasons as you suggest.

I hate the stickie stuff. More trouble than it's worth. Makes re-wrapping a messy affair.
Start at the bottom of the drops, keep pulling it tight as you go and finish off with some electrical tape.
