Hey MORE women! I can't believe I've lived here a year and I JUST now stumbled upon what I've been looking for all along. Women riders!

Just wanted to say hello and see how far all of you are from the DC area...or moreover...see how far in MD this ride is on Saturday...does anyone have any idea how far it is away from me if I"m about 30 miles south of DC?

I just got a new bike at Christmas time (full suspension finally) and I have a new Garmin GPS bike computer/heart rate monitor that is bomb diggaty.

Let me know if anyone is close to me who wants to ride at some point. I'm riding in Upper Marlboro Sun morning at 9am if anyone wants to join me.

ESCAPE WHILE YOU STILL CAN !!!!

Er, I mean, welcome! :D

If you go to "QuickLinks" -> "Where to Ride" you'll find details on getting to Greenbrier (http://www.dnr.state.md.us/publiclands/western/greenbrier.html).
I'm guessing it will be a 2-2.5 hr proposal from your location.

Make sure you take advantage of the non-RLAG rides too!

Hi Can't Sit Still, Welcome to MORE. If you live about 30 miles south of dc, I assume you are in the Quantico / Fredricksburg / woodbridge area. The RLAG ride this weekend is at Greenbriar State Park, which is about 1 hour maybe 1:15 minutes north of the beltway and 270. your trip should be 1:45 to 2:00.

I am of the hairy faced and legged gender, and am therefore banned from participation in the RLAG ride, But can attest that the RLAG riders are truely fun to ride with and meet. They run the gammut from very new and just starting out, to Riding and racing for years with all kinds of skills to share.

Greenbriar is a very fun and challenging trail system. Most of the trail is slightly wider than usual single track and mostly straight. the soil is made of mostly very small rock and drains very very well. The challenging parts are two long climbs which even some of the most experienced riders sometimes push the bike up at least part of the way. And 1 downhill rock garden, Rocks the size of between Potatoes and small lettuce or gabbage heads. The garden is only about 50 - 100 yards long, pretty easy to walk if your not ready for it yet, and very do-able if you have good bike balance and a little bit of momentum.

When you are heading to Upper Marlboro, give me a call or email. I live about 15 minutes from Rosaryville and really enjoy riding with new riders and especially women riders.

Again Welcome, Hope to see you on a trail soon. Dave Marchyshyn. dmarchy1 dmarchy@yahoo.com or 301-509-3191. Peace, and keep your fingers and toes warm grease.

I would guess about 2 hours. Check the link Walsh provided to the Greenbriar page for specific directions.

If you want an alternative, I am leading a casual ride at Fountainhead (http://www.more-mtb.org/forum/showthread.php?t=6526) on Saturday morning (same time as the Ride Like a Girl ride). Fountainhead is considerably closer to you than Greenbriar is. But there will be icky guys there. :)

Welcome to MORE! Great user name. :D

I'm a girl, who lives near Rosaryville and needs to get out there again. Well, on days when temps are above freezing. I can vouch for Dave, great guy to ride Rosie with.

If you decide to go (again, on a day that's not freezing), send me a PM or email. I'd love to meet you guys there.

MOREons are really nice, patient people. And this sport can be sooo much fun.

Ahh...so much to say and so little time!

You like my username? Are you kidding me...my life is made more complicated by the fact that I can't sit still! HA! Last night I was soooo tired after work so I told myself that it was OK to sit and watch TV...so I flipped on friends and laid on my bed...within 20 mins I was on my indoor CycleOps fluid trainer peddlin away. Stupid energy...you should see me on caffeine!

I am riding with a friend Brian on Sun morning but I will be in the parking lot at Rosaryville hopefully by 9am or 9:15...I drive a silver jeep wrangler rubicon with a black soft top. So stalkers...start stalking...want my social sec number too? :) Jokin!

Anyhow...I'm not the best rider by any means but I'm not the worst. I ride a GIANT trance3 and I usually wear a t-shirt that I made that on the front says "I ride a 14 inch" and on the back says "Giant bicycle". Only cool people understand it :) All others in society just think I'm some kind of slut. It's awesome!

I like riding in warmer weather too but I'm craving bike time so I'm willing to suffer through the cold.

Dave...talk to me...do you like riding with women because you are slow? Do you like riding with us because you like to show people up when you ride? Do you like riding with us because you are slightly feminine and it gets you more in touch with who you really are? Or do you just like riding with us so you can check out something other than a mans ass?

Just wonderin :p

I think I'm ditching out on the Fountainhead ride tomorrow...I was there last weekend and sometimes I get sick of working that hard for a bike ride. I have to be in the mood for Fountainhead and I don't enjoy the trail enough to ride it in the cold/mud but to those who are going, enjoy.

If anyone is ever (and I mean EVER) up for an Urban ride...lemme know. I'm always up for jumping some stairs and trying some new tricks. I never want to break my face though so I jump kinda like a girl. An arm...no biggie...but not my face...

And I am in Stafford so good guess on whereabouts I am...

You like my username? Are you kidding me...my life is made more complicated by the fact that I can't sit still! HA!Well, I tend to judge things based purely on how much they amuse me. So in that sense, it’s a winner. ;)

Only cool people understand it :) All others in society just think I'm some kind of slut. It's awesome! Jeeze, now I want to assemble my old Giant Rainier (which was a 14” frame) just so I can get that shirt.

I never want to break my face though so I jump kinda like a girl. An arm...no biggie...but not my face... I ride urban a lot on the weekends with a friend of mine. You are welcome to join us if you want. We usually ride in the Dulles/Reston area, but we travel around looking for new spots too.

You said in another post that you are stationed at Quantico. Have you ridden there? There are some really nice trails on Quantico. I think there is a ride there coming up in a few weeks -- check the Friday Hookey Rides.

Can't sit still, I am not really a slow rider, I do race, but in the beginner class. I have no feeling of superiority, ever!!! I don't think I have a feminine side - " I didn't know I was supposed to be lookin for it." (From Forest Gump). I havn't seen a backside view with a personality yet.
I enjoy and appreciate proper technique. A large majority of male riders have an excess of avialable leg and upper body strenth. When they are challenged by a trail obstacle or technical feature far to often the use brute force to over come the challenge. Most Female riders ,I have seen and studied, when challenged with an obstacle use proper lift, momentum and weight transfer to clear the obstacle. This results in a smoother transition and retention of speed. I have also observed that many women choose smoother lines in and out of turns, roots and rocks.
Most importantly I have an infectous passion for riding, and I like to share it. Most newbies havent developed the jaded antisocial race training attitude yet.
I am a married guy, happily, for going on 20 years now. I have 1 teenage son. Joshua, 16 years old, A great kid, good downhill rider, but Hates, and I mean HATES, Uphills. I also have 5 GOD DAUGHTERS. I absolutely adore women, and Little Women.
It makes me so angry when young womem are given the message that it is un attractive to be athletic, agressive, or talented in sports. Confidence, in My opinion, is the most Sexy, appealing, attribute a person can posess. Mountainbike riding definitely instills confidence.

Jabberwocky...are you riding urban on Saturday at all? My Saturday is still open and I'm up for riding anywhere with anyone.

Yes, I have ridden Quantico's trails and they are decent trails for sure. I have no idea why I have a mental block against riding those trails...I think it's just too close to home and I like to be as far away from base as humanly possible when I'm not at work. Understandable right? :)

I have a 14" Giant Rainer too :) That's where the shirt came from. I make shirts for anyone who wants one with an underlying message. That was my claim to fame in Kansas on the race scene. Everyone always had an original "Katie" shirt on that said something silly about biking that fit their personality but couldn't be purchased. I'm not opposed to starting that trend here. Now I need to step mine up because my Trance is 16". Man I love that bike!

I wholeheartedly agree about women and technique. We tent to finesse over things rather than power over them. I have an aggressive, confident personality but I am still a woman. I'm a k9 handler by trade but am on a different assignment right now so I'll be in Quantico for the next 3 years.

Welp...that's all for now. I just tried to post some pics under the member pics page of me in Moab. I have a pic of me where you can see the reflection of Arches National Park in my sunglasses...it's awesome!

Don't listen to him.. he is just being nice so you will get comfortable around him.. then he will sucker you into doing trailwork.. run.. run as fast as you can :D ... or even better.. cycle really fast...

ps.. Ass's don't need a personality, if you are forced to look at something the entire ride (hopefully the trail), it may as well be a pretty looking ass, as opposed to another mans ass.. and for god sakes man, where cycling shorts I can see your crack (my neighbour... *shudder*.. of course he won't read this so its just me being a dumbass in public.. I am good at that.. welcome)

Thanks for the welcome. I can run from trail maintenence...no worries. I live in a world where people tell me what to do every second of every day. If some civilian tells me to grab a rake and a saw...I'm not above punching him in the face for all the times that I can't do that in the Marine Corps :)

KIDDIN! Trail maint is part of being a mtn biker and I recognize that... :D I'm game as long as I'm in town and we get to ride it afterward. Built in reward system...that's how I operate. I just bought myself some new stuff yesterday since I am in school again and being a good student! I'm like a kid that way! I want ice cream if I get good grades!

I understand the desire to be away from base entirely. I was enlisted in the Corps from 88 to 92. Luckily, when I was not depolyed I was stationed in Hawaii and could go to Waikiki to get away, although I lived in the barracks.

I’m leading the ride at Fountainhead in the morning, but I may be doing the urban thing later in the day. If not, we will probably be out Sunday afternoon. And we will definitely be riding next weekend.

The Marine Corps is a wonderful thing and I've been blessed with the experiences I've gotten to have so far in the Corps, but like any job...it's a job. I need to get away from my "office" every chance I get.

I rode this morning with Can't sit still, Gunny Brian, and Mike. CSS, You have a very smooth and steady riding style. This will serve you well for a long long time. Your upside potential is unlimited. Keep it fun, I hope to see ya on the trails again soon. Ooh-Rahh, Dave M.

Thanks Dave! And thanks for meeting up with us...I'd love to ride with you again soon...I'm out of town this coming weekend but will be around after that.

I am extremely comfortable with my technical skills, cornering and such right now but I'm using my heart rate monitor now to figure out why I crash so hard after I pedal so hard...I'm trying to maintain a steady heart rate as much as possible so I don't keep burning out so early into these rides. Those are the parts of riding I'm struggling with right now...the road biking parts of it to be honest.

Anyhoo...I'd love to improve in all areas before this race season so any help you can give on ANY ride, I'll take it. If you see me shifting too soon, too late, too much...I love feedback so give it if you are on a ride with me so I can get better! :)

See you soon I hope!
