Schaeffer was okay until this weekend. Depending how much rain they got up there last night--that will be the issue. If no rain until then, it should be pretty good. I may try to join if you want some company.

There's a Performance Bicycle at the Festival Shopping Center (357 Muddy Branch Road, Gaithersburg - 301-590-3000). It's probably the closest. I don't know what's available in Germantown.
I may get out to Schaeffer this evening. If I do, I'll share the conditions with everyone. The rain has been quick and spotty.

I rode Schaeffer Sunday afternoon, and cut it short due to a number of low-lying muddy spots on normally dry sections. The afternoon rain has been scattered, but if the trails have gotten wet every afternoon this week, I would consider staying off.

I rode Shaeffer yesterday afternoon and it was great. some mud in the usual places. BUT... I live about 5 minutes from there and it rained HARD last night. I am giving it a couple days to dry out.

It's been raining off and on here in G'burg since around rush hour. I'd bet that Schaeffer's pretty wet and needs a few dry days.

Hey Chris and anyone else considering an A/W ride -
I live about 2 minutes from Accotink by bike. It's rained here, some times hard, every day this week. I would give it a couple of days before heading back out. Thanks.

Rode last night. The trails are generally dry except for a couple of places. Good riding.

Living next to Avalon, I've only been to Schaffer once, so I really don't know how things recover after rain. Trying to take a new MTBer down mid-day Sunday. If anyone can offer some info on trail conditions before I trek down an hour and find a swamp, I'd appreciate it.
Thanks!

I'm wondering the same thing...
That was some storm on friday (watched it all on 270 crawling home after work), and I'm not holding out much hope for a sunday ride. Even Gambrill is sloppy... (hiked up there today) so I'd bet SF is pretty bad in spots.
Still, I'd like to hear...

I rode some late this afternoon. There were low spots on all the trails that were muddy. I cut the ride short and would suggest allowing the trails a bit more time to dry.

I just rode Shaeffer Farms (The White Skull Loop) this morning at noon. Overall, the trail was 85% dry and fine to ride on. There was the occasional muddy spot, but there was enough room to steer around it without going off the trail. The white loop was great!

Anyone live near or pass by Schaeffer this evening? It rained for about 45 minutes or so in northern VA at about 4pm today, and I'm wondering if: (1) that passed by Schaeffer too; and (2) even if not, what condition are the trails in? Thanks to anyone who can help.

I rode this Monday afternoon (6/21), and the trails were in great shape. There are a few muddy spots, but not bad. We have not had significant rain since then, so I would suspect it's still good to go. I suggest wearing glasses through the fields, since the corn is now tall enough to smack you in the face.

Oy folks.
A few of us rode Schaeffer later this morning after they'd had a chance to dry out a bit. There are a few puddles in spots, but the trails have drained well and were in good shape today. Lets hope the rain stays away. It would be nice to have a whole week of nice weather to really make the trails perfect.
Thanks for a great ride today Steve. It was good to meet you and great to ride with you, Mike and Janet. The pace was perfect for me today. I was definitely working out some kinks. It hurt like heck for the first 45 minutes, then I got into a groove and my leg feels much better. Those ski bumms don't know what they missed.
Peace!

A few (and I mean FEW) slightly muddy areas where there used to be puddles, but 99% is in great shape.
