Welcome to the Help Wanted Forum. Here you will find postings for various volunteer opportunity's and general ways to get more involved in the club.

In order to keep this forum better organized new threads are only allowed to be posted by MORE board members and a select group of volunteers. Everyone is allowed to reply to each thread in order to express interest in helping out etc.

Please check back often for new ways to pitch in.

Im not sure what help is needed since it wasn't posted but I've volunteered for various course builds and would be interested in any projects of interest.

Tom,
I don't want to divert the thread but didn't see the Fountain Head work day listed elsewhere, I have the day free and can help. I'll shoot you a pm.

George

Don't see an answer to my question in the FAQ...so I'll ask it here. What is the definition of a Trail Liason? Estimated monthly time required? Does one need to be a MORE paying member or can anybody volunteer for this position? What are the duties? Thanks.

Does one need to be a MORE paying member or can anybody volunteer for this position? What are the duties? Thanks.I'll punt here as a liaison, and others can chime in. The main duties are twice a year you have to organize trail work days. Ideally, you'll take a course with IMBA which has, on occasion, been taught here in the DC area. Alternatively, do lots and lots of trail work at various parks. And best of all, is to volunteer when Rich Edwards is around and learn from him in the field. If that isn't all quite possible, you can get someone in MORE to help you. Dan Hudson has done a lot and there's a Trail Boss, and MD and VA Advocate who will help you.

Meanwhile, there's a few other things to do. I'm liaison for Conway Robinson, and I do a lot of emailing with the Friends of Conway Robinson and with the Department of Forest. We have made signs (thanks Jim Hannon!) and are working on disouraging illegal activity in the Forest. In the past, some mountain bikers built things illegally, and I had to smooth the feather of the Dept of Forestry. In one case, the guy who did the work was a good chap and undid it himself. The other time, I had to go out with the guy and I had to do a lot of the undoing myself, too.

I'm trying to coordinate with the DoF on getting some night riding.

I have no idea how many total hours it is, but it's not too bad. I think there might be some additional opporunities for volunteers, so don't be bashful!

Yes, I'm pretty sure you have to be a member of MORE. What's that? $25. Not a bad deal. :)
