Random Act of Kindnesss or Feeling Generous?

Donate your mountain bike and give someone [me] a second chance!

Start the year 2007 on a good foot!

It's a new year... it's a new ball game!

Finally, after 40 years, I'm beginning to find the strength to start thinking for myself.

Starting a new life... going somewhere... ...will need transportation!

What to do?

The struggle to survive gives you direction and drive.

There is a good reason I lost direction!

"The universe is not going to see someone like you again in the entire history of creation." Vartan Gregorian

On that slippery road [winter is coming] your mountain bike will give me a better grip on life.

"Mock not the fallen, for slippery is the road ahead of you."

Good Luck and Happy new year in 2007!

P.S. I can come pick up the mountain bike on foot in Falls Church or Arlington VA.

The modern bike “the Rover Safety Bicycle” came out in 1885 ...back to the future 122 years... you have to start somewhere!

A Little Kindness Goes a Long Way!

Can a misfit become a successful person?

I want you to know that I’m not in favor of organizing a BIG spaghetti dinner to raise the money for this misfit!

I’m sure it can help the cause in the long run... but for now, transportation is the main problem.

It’s nice for the misfit to learn a lesson...

...there is always room to grow!

I’d like to share with you what I have... but it isn’t much... believe me! It isn’t much.

My freeride to freedom on the streets of DC

...can only begin with transportation a.k.a mountain bike.

It will be an uphill ride all the way... Believe me!

Go ahead, say it: “Money doesn’t grow on trees!”

You should know that...

...on those many mountain bike trails, there are many trees.

But I’d like to think that Washington D.C. is still the capital of the FREE world.

We all pray for the day when our nation may truly be the land of the FREE!

May God bless you all and continue to inspire you in the service of your fellowman.

P.S. “Mock not the fallen, for slippery is the road ahead of you.”

There’s a lot ahead that you don’t expect.

And a lot of what you do expect isn’t ahead!

If a bike is what you're looking for (and I'm not sure what all the other rambling quotes, etc. in your post are about, I'm guessing its a hard sell, but it reads an awful lot like spam) there are several sources including Chain Reaction in DC and Craig's List.

You'll also get more responses by telling us what size you're looking for and being a little more straightforward about what you're asking. I don't have any spare bikes at the moment, but if I did, I'd need to know how tall you are, etc.

Yard sales and CL are probably better places to look...

I saw a perfectly serviceable early 90s vintage Raleigh Technium Heat at our community's fall yard sale for $20 (I paid $525 for a similar one in 1989). That would be a better bike than anything you could buy at Wal-Mart (after a good tune-up, probably better than any sub $300 bike on the market today).

A Misfit Waits for a Second Act

The sun is up on this January warm day, but a chill is rollin’ in.

I’m going to hurry up and get myself together so I can find that MOUNTAIN BIKE.

But together seems a long way out!

No job, no car, no place of my own... 40 years-old!

On my best days, I'm here at the Fairfax County public library, looking for FREEdom.

On the worst days, I think of no job, no car, no place of my own.

But my spirit is not broken...

...because my FREEride to FREEdom is out there...

I know it... transportation a.k.a …MOUNTAIN BIKE

With this faith, we will be able to ride together, to struggle together, to work together...

...knowing that we will be FREE one day!

Thank you for your consideration

Actually freeride is a type of mountain biking revolving around riding over and off of unconventional things, like cliffs and ladders suspended 10 feet in the air using over built mountain bikes that are best suited for going downhill.

Have you checked with local charities and churches?

Good luck in your quest.

If we're gonna ask for free stuff I'd like:

People in glass houses need lots of Windex

- A newish (05 and up) Carbon Specialized Road Bike for training

The hills are alive with the sound of nature

- A pimped out Winnabego camper for MTBing road trips

An apple a day keeps me regular

- A house in Tahoo

When I wore a younger man's clothes, he got really angry with me

- An expense account that I don't have to be responsible for

You seem like you've got savvy; use your savvy and the info below to get hooked up. There are probably programs out there that will meet your specific needs-- you just gotta find 'em and be persistent. Good luck.

As ment'd: Bulk trash time is also a good option for cast away bikes.

CUE Bus system (http://www.fairfaxva.gov/CUEBus/CUEBus.asp)

Ridesharing info (http://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/fcdot/sources.htm)

Your local Transit Authority (http://www.wmata.com/)

Your local DSS (http://www.workworld.org/wwwebhelp/va_department_of_social_services_ds s_offices.htm)

Local Churches (http://costar.net/church.htm)

Full fares are discounted for customers 65 years of age and older and persons with disabilities with a Metro ID or Medicare card. A photo ID may be requested by the driver. Senior citizens can obtain an ID card application at all Fairfax County libraries. Persons with disabilities can arrange to obtain an ID card at WMATA headquarters, 600 Fifth Street NW, Washington, D.C., by calling (202)-962-1245, TTY (202) 628-8973.

Unfortunately Mr. LiveTheDream, our mountain bikes live pretty hard lives. Once they are of no use to us any longer, they get picked clean the same way turkey vultures pick clean roadkill. The good components go into our next build, the rest of the parts go into the spare parts bin or the junk heap. Most of us just don't have extra bikes lying around. You've been given some great suggestions for no-cost, low cost bikes, go ahead and act on them.

Dear Mr. Livethedream,

While I cannot provide you directly with a mountain bicycle, I have been requested by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company to contact you for assistance in resolving a matter. If you assist me, you will have the ability to buy ten thousand or more of the finest mountain bicycles.

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company has recently concluded a large number of contracts for oil exploration in the sub-Sahara region. The contracts have immediately produced moneys equalling US$40,000,000. The Nigerian National Petroleum Company is desirous of oil exploration in other parts of the world, however, because of certain regulations of the Nigerian Government, it is unable to move these funds to another region.

You assistance is requested as a non-Nigerian citizen to assist the Nigerian National Petroleum Company, and also the Central Bank of Nigeria, in moving these funds out of Nigeria. If the funds can be transferred to you, Mr. Livethedream, in your United States account, then you can forward the funds as directed by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company. In exchange for you accomodating services, the Nigerian National Petroleum Company would agree to allow you to retain 10%, or US$4 million of this amount.

If it will be possible for you to assist us, think of all of the mountain bicycles you might purchase—red ones, blue ones, yellow ones, etc. You could have a mountain bicycles in every color in the rainbow for every day of week. We suggest that you meet with us in person in Nigeria, and that during your visit I introduce you to the representatives of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company, as well as with certain officials of the Central Bank of Nigeria.

Please email me at your earliest convenience at scam-artist@dillweed.com. Time is of the essence in this matter; very quickly the Nigerian Government will realize that the Central Bank is maintaining this amount on deposit, and attempt to levy certain depository taxes on it.

Yours truly, etc.

10. I am car FREE

8. One more cyclist – a better deal for society for FREE
We've all worked hard to acquire our rides (except, maybe BikerMiker), but you won't even want to tell us what size bike you might want.

7. Greater quality of life for FREE

6. Glamorization of mountain bikes – FREE advertising

5. The Recyclable Bicycle – FREE up your hands & some space

4. FREEdom to move (Independence) – Good Luck happens to those in Action
It isn't about luck, it's about working hard.

3. I am Global Warming FREE
See #9 above.

2. The best things in life are FREE

Isolation is the Dream killer

Real Obstacles

Every dream has one, two, three, or often more obstacles... just as in a “FREEride”

How do you kill your dream? ISOLATION

when it comes to your dreams—nobody makes you do them

1. Your boss makes you come to work
2. Your teacher makes you do your homework
3. Your family makes you bring home the bacon

But when it comes to your dreams—nobody makes you do them

1. You want to learn to play guitar
2. You want to visit Bagdad
3. You want to build a mountain bike from scratch

Those are wishes and dreams.

I’ll tell you my wishes, you tell me yours!

You help me, I help you!

A success team is a buddy system in which everyone helps each other go after their dreams.

Now that I’m starting my life ALL OVER, at 40 years-old, I need a success team like I’ve never needed one before.

This is no time to be in isolation.

No woman/man is an island.

Will you be on my success team?

Dude,
Seriously, the dream is dead. At least here on this forum. If anyone had a spare bike to give you, you haven't done much to show them why they should help you out. Rambling on about dreams, starting your life over at 40 and how the world is holding you back is getting old. We've all had hard times in our lives.

Several sources of possible bikes have been mentioned, but it's like talking to a wall. What have you done to make your dreams come true besides get high, go to the library and post here?

Recovering from shoulder surgery keeps me off the trail for a little while longer, but if you ever get your act together and acquire a bike let us know. I'll be happy to ride with, teach and help you out where I can.

I've got xmas decorations to take down.

Actually freeride is a type of mountain biking revolving around riding over and off of unconventional things, like cliffs and ladders suspended 10 feet in the air using over built mountain bikes that are best suited for going downhill.

The Hurdler

The Hurdler knows that the path is strewn with obstacles...

...and develops a knack for overcoming roadblocks.

Perseverance pays off... Believe me!

An energetic hurdler is always willing to bend the rules.

“Nothing is good or bad, but thinking makes it so.” William Shakespeare

Are you a Hurdler?

We've all have hurdles to overcome in life and on those mountain bike trails ...

...won't you help me overcome a hurdle on that freeride?

...and please let the world know what I'm up against. We’re on the World Wide Web.

I’ll hurdle and pick up the mountain bike on foot in Falls Church or Arlington VA.

Isolation is the Dream killer

. . . But when it comes to your dreams—nobody makes you do them

1. You want to learn to play guitar
2. You want to visit Bagdad
3. You want to build a mountain bike from scratch

Those are wishes and dreams.

Yeah, and it'd be nice if this tool could learn to spell... unless, Bagdad really is a real place - maybe Irack or something?

Nowhere else to go... without a FREEride

One day something happens...

...it wakes us up!!!

- a friend dies
- our first kid goes to college
- we’ve reached a dead-end

...there’s nowhere else to go

There’s two of us... YOU & ME!!!

This is the first chance you’ve ever gotten to learn who you are.

Inside everyone of us is a unique spirit that belongs only to us.

This spirit is completely FREE to want fantastic things—

- to run a 4 minute mile
- to find the cure for Cancer
- or to simply find a FREEride a.k.a Mountain Bike.

For me, this spirit has been shut up in a sound proof box for many years.

What have I been doing all those years?

Well, of all those years, really only the last five years are a waste. I fooled around an extra five years when I knew it was time to move on. But I was afraid to admit that I’d made a mistake. I needed to build up some courage. I really couldn’t have dared to begin until NOW!

Time’s a-wasting...

Let’s build a better future.

Let the World know where I’m @ .

We’re on the World Wide Web.

Alright, can anyone think of a reason we should let this thread continue? I can't. Locked.

livethedream68: The MORE forum is not your personal e-begging site. If you haven't gotten your free bike by now, you probably aren't going to get one. People have posted several methods to get a cheap or free bike which involve minimal work on your part. Put forth the effort and stop polluting our forum. Feel free to PM me if you feel it's necesary to discuss this, but I promise starting more threads like this will earn you a temp ban.
