Ok, I'll play. I'm primarily an XC geek, so my pics are more trail jumps and the like though.

He landed it twice and hit the deck pretty horribly as he took off with one foot on his pedal and one out to the right of his bike (off the pedal.)

Went out street riding in Reston today with my friend Steve, and got a few good pics of him.
Steve demonstrates that he has been practicing bunny hopping. He made it up this ledge, which was easily as high as a mtb wheel, every try:
http://img182.imageshack.us/img182/7307/img2809nv8.jpg
I pointed out this drop to Steve on the way out. He said he "wasn't sure" about it, and then hit it perfectly. And then did it again for me to get a picture of (and yes, he landed on the narrow wall below):

Demonstrating trials skills (and tire pinch flatting ability, too):

Dude i want to try the second pic. I set up something similar in my yard once where there was a jump onto a skinny but ive never really done anything like that were you could slip off
Also there looks to be a line in the thrid pic where you would follow that brick skinny, drop and land on the skinny again and drop off the skinny landing on the stairs. Did any of you try it?

Did any of you try it?Negative, although you are right, it looks like a good line. You could do the drop in the second pic, and then ride out and either hop onto the stairs, or keep riding along and hop off the end (over the little wall he is hopping on in the third pic).
I actually did the drop too, but I decided not to try it again to get pics of it. I can't do the trials drop like Steve can, so I just hauled ass and rode off it. :) It was a bit scary, because if I messed up to my left, I was going right down the stairs (probably on my face).

Nice pics redneckp3ngu1n! Where is that wall that you're doin' the wall ride on? Up in Rockville?
Let me know if you're up for riding street with an old guy sometime. I'd come up to Rockville on the weekend for a change of scenery. I must warn you though... I always wear a helmet, I run a front brake, and I always ride with my camel bak (a.k.a. the mobile toolbox that keeps me from having to walk home on many occasions). Sounds like I'm breaking a bunch of unwritten street rules

Maby. Im sick at the moment but there is some stuff in the area thats worth riding. Maby after xmas. I recently put the front brake from my reign on for slolum at 495 and am having a hard time thinking of an excuse to take it back off again. And yup i bring my camelback with me (just with tool and tube) because, like most cyclists, i believe my feet touching the ground is overrated.

Well, the weather pretty much rocked today, so Steve and I went over to the Arlington/Roslyn area to do some more street riding. So, in my attempt to destroy every poor 56ker who clicks this thread, more pictures!
Steve does a crazy trials trick which I don't know the name of on a ledge. He is really good at these:

Thats a bigger ledge than i can get up (or have tried atleast) so you dont suck too much. And as for the derrailure. Go singlespeed. As much as i hate to say it singlespeed is actually a good idea for street and jump because 1) you dont need gears 2) it clears up the cable clutter on your bike and 3) its fewer things to brake.

So he likes having higher gears to ride around with, and lower gears for the urban riding.
But yeah, I suggested singlespeeding it temporarily until he gets a new hanger. The p.2 has horizontal drops, so its a pretty easy conversion.

Also, theres apparently a college nearby, so we were treated to a constant parade of scantily clad college women out enjoying the nice weather. ;)

Point and shoot cameras aren't great in low light conditions. On my P&S (Canon SD300), there is a manual mode where you can force the ISO to a higher speed (200 or 400). It increases noise somewhat, but shutter speed increases too which eliminates the blur. P&S cameras just aren't great at capturing motion in low light environments.

I can hop off backwards but still land with my front wheel on the tree so i have enough momentum to roll back but i can also just do a plain roll back. The normal roll back is harder for me though i cant get it 100% of the time.
The drop is about 6ft from tip to the top of the raked out tranny. You could land farther up but you would have to have a vertical trajectory and you would land in a pile of sticks and crap. Im gonna dig out the area before the raked out area a bit so that the tranny is a bit more obvious.
This is off of the c and o canal believe it or not. The rock drop is across muddy branch creek from blockhouse point (this is a neighborhood trail network and i see a set of weirwolf tracks every now and then so im not the only biker) and i dont get yelled at so its all good.

Steve and I skipped out of work early today and rode 495 for a few hours. Apparently god likes us, because the rain that had been threatening all afternoon disappeared the instant we loaded our bikes on the car and the sun came out. It ended up being beautiful riding weather.

I'm supposed to do an XC ride with a friend on Sunday, but the weather is looking none to good for the weekend so I may have to cancel. Where in Bethesda do you start riding? It would be awesome to ride some different spots.
Drop me an email at chris (a t) intensity (p e r i o d) org and we can set something up.

I'm up for riding in Bethesda on Sunday. I'm getting more ink on my left calf on Friday, and I usually try not to ride for a few days afterwards to help the healing process (lately my tats haven't been healing too well for some reason), but I really want to check out some new spots, so screw it, I'll ride on Sunday. :) My email address is steve [at] smahlstedt [period] com. Just tell me when and where to meet.

6.4" rear, 8" front? That thing probably ate that stuff up pretty well i bet.The boxxer on there is an older 7" model (170mm, I think). But yeah, it worked far better than any of my bikes would have. I really need to get some upper body armor and a full face though. I took one good slam today, and I only avoided bad injury because I'm pretty good at doing the rag-doll-tuck-n-roll from years of skating.
I also had one of the scariest holy-crap-I'm-gonna-die moments I've had in a while today. There were a series of jumps, and I didn't realize the last one was a 20' gap until I went off it. Fortunately I was going fast enough to clear it, but I had a few seconds of abject terror wondering if I was going to make it to the landing. :D

Ha! I was really just kidding. I was drooling over it that day at L&C, before you had decided to part out the bike.
The problem with buying just the frame, for me, is that I still want to keep the vagrant built up for XC riding. I plan to sell my real XC bike (Trek Fuel EX8) soon, to help pay for a new FR bike.

Yes, indeed! I think we did 3 or 4 runs down the "easier" side of the mountain. There were a bunch of other groups up there, so we were able to bum a ride to help setup the trucks. Worked out nicely!

Just sell the Vagrant frame instead, and keep the Fuel. Its the frame + DHX shock + headset + seatpost/saddle + front derailleur, and a Kona sticker for your car. BTW, did you get my e-mail about the possibility of new freeride stuff in the area? I might be buying a very basic dj/urban/play-around bike for cheap, but might not if this new riding spot isn't going to materialize.

I appreciate the offer, but until I sell my Pinarello road bike, I don't have the space for another bike. I'm also going to delay any more bike purchases to see if my new medical school schedule will even permit me enough time to ride. If it does, I'll talk to you about the frame/fork.

Hopefully the answers to both of the above are yes. On tuesday my real classes start and I won't be able to make it to any rides all the way out in fredneck. Instead I'll be studying anatomy and physiology until my eyes bleed  .

Hey guys, I was planning on hitting the Shed this Sunday, starting around 10:00AM. My truck can shuttle six.
Open to suggestions, but certainly interested in packing in as many of these downhill run combinations as possible:

Angie's Trail
D. Hippie
Jump Trail (maybe as a warm-up?)
Blue Trail
Weather will be awesome!
