Looking for advice on which part of Patapsco would be best for an experienced 11 year old. We are getting bored with Rosaryville and Cedarville so we tried Patapsco last Sunday from the main parking lot at Avalon. Needless to say we pushed more than we rode. Thanx.

Try entering from Rockburn Park. I've taken lots of beginners thru that area. Mostly dirt single-track, any obstacles are walkable if necessary.

Patapsco State Park runs along a river valley so if you start from within the park you have to climb out of the valley on either side. If you start either at Rockburn Park or Landing Rd. (both located on the Howard County side of the park), there are lots of nice rolling trails. I recommend purchasing a map. The Morning Choice, Ridge and Rockburn Branch trails are all lots of fun and challenging without being too technical. The Horse Farm trail is also fun, however it's not shown on any of the official park maps as part of the trail runs through private property.
