Folks, they predict rain for Tuesday evening. Starting around 6pm. Of course, the weather forecasters are often wrong, lately they've been pretty good. Before you all make concrete plans, I'd keep your schedule flexible.
Besides, make SURE TO VOTE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!

I'm gonna stay tuned to this thread for weather/ride updates. I'd like to come down tonight for a spin. Would be coming from Frederick, though-- so it's a heck of a commitment, travel-wise, just to be rained out.
CRAIG2
November 7th, 2006, 12:36 PM
Yeah, it's gone from a 70% to 40% chance of rain in the past 12 hours or so. I'll try to post up something later today either way.
If it's raining from 5:30 on, the ride is off. If it's not raining by the time the ride is scheduled to begin, the ride is on.
Forecast summary: It might rain or it might not. The meteorologists just like to add a bunch of meaningless percentages to make it sound like they really know something. You're better off with a window. :D

There are a few guys that come down from Frederick for the Wakefield night rides. I guess they can PM you if they are interested in carpooling.

I was just out and about in the Mclean area and we're getting intermittant sprinkles. It's not enough to wet the ground though. I'll sweat more moisture out during a ride than we're getting from the sky right now. :p

Yeah, but the ride is 6 hours away and Doppler shows what looks like a significant blob of green and yellow coming our way, now just north of Richmond on the 95 corridor. Stay tuned...

Good question - this might be a call I'll have to make when I get to the park. Yesterday was NOT a good day for drying out, and the grounds around my apartment were pretty soggy this morning.
Right now, it's kind of up in the air. If someone makes it out there today and can post something up as far as trail conditions go, I'd appreciate it.

Just bumping this one back into the mix... So far I've heard nothing of trail conditions, so until I hear otherwise, the ride is ON. If we get there and the trails are not in good shape, I'll cut things short - forewarned is fair warned.

Craig - If things are too wet, get on the CCT (Heading towards the Ball fields - Not Accotink) and ride out to 50. Turn around and head back. It's a better than NOTHING ride.

Yep! Tomorrow is still on, and I don't see any rain in the near future. Thursday, of course, will be off. I'm thinking about maybe doing something Friday if it doesn't rain. If it does, I'll be drinking at the driving range :D
See everyone tomorrow!

Looks like I won't be able to make it. My bike has minor technical issues and I don't have time to fix it. Besides, I barely have enough time to pack and get ready to go out of town. I'll see you guys next week.

Hard to say - I think the casual ride is the only advertised ride. But, usually there is at least one other group, which is usually a moderate pace ride. No guarantees, though.

Tis not the gears but the front disk brake. I removed the wheel to change tires and now the brake is rubbing in an odd way. No time to diagnose it at 9pm last night and really no time to ride this evening considering a better use of my time is packing to go out of town tomorrow. Oh well, there's always next week. :D

Chrisdepending on the brake, i'm sure someone (namely me, if no one else and if i'm there) would be willing/able to fix it in the lot pre-ride.

I appreciate the offer, but this is really a convenient excuse to be responsible. It sounds like there's something on the pad, maybe some crud got dislodged when I took the wheel out. I wasn't in the mood to work on it in my garage at 9pm last night.
I'll probably get it sorted out tonight after the packing is done. I have to get a wife, kid, dog, and my hunting gear organized and mostly packed tonight so I only have to load the W/K/D at departure. I hate loading vehicles right before leaving, it's a surefire way to forget something.

Yeah, but if I don't have good brakes, I risk running up your back end when you stall out on a climb or slam on your brakes unexpectedly. ;) Got Snorkel?

Who's leading the casual ride and is it really casual. My son and I will be riding SS for his first night ride so I don't want to hold the group up. What will the ride leader be driving?
CRAIG2

Greetings!
The ride is casual an will be casual - we will only move along as fast as the slowest rider, stopping as necessary. You won't get dropped. I am the ride leader, and drive a gold colored Ford Focus sedan. I will be riding a black/yellow GT singlespeed. Wakefield is great for SS; no major hills, and most first timers can ride most sections on just about any kind of mtn bike.

punga!I dunno.. that's a pretty big window.. I wouldn't want to be waiting around. Maybe if you pinned it down a little better..
:DNot sure just yet.. still weighing things out, school is really kicking my as$ so that's getting factored in. I'd say that the likelihood of me being there tonight has dropped, somewhat, to about 58% or so.

nothing serious, fortunately. But enough that riding on Sunday did not help things. No breaks or fractures and 90% certain that there are no tears either. Bummer is he said it just takes time to heal. Bruised humerus (?) bone and sprained rotator cuff. 2-3 weeks no lifting, biking, climbing, etc.
how are YOU feeling? Any improvement to the ribs? My doc told me I could ride a stationary... joy, joy.

Took a digger on this (http://picasaweb.google.com/dharma.dill/Misc/photo?authkey=Q84StUFriiw#499998774 0836560914) log pile at Schaeffer two weeks ago. I almost had it too! Oh well, next time!

Ahhh, what do doctors know, they're just doctors. Take some Motrin, otherwise known as Vitamin M to us military folks, and get back on your bike. You'll heel in no time.
I can't believe that's not you in the picture, sure that isn't your stunt double? He's almost as buff as you ;)

See, didn't I call it, a bruised humerus? Veterinarians know what we're talking about too. :)
I don't think mine is my rib, I think I tore a muscle. It's still sore, was hurting more two weeks after I fell and the pain moved up. But I rode last night at Wakefield. Thanks to everyone for waiting for me by the way since the gosh darn traffic was so bad.
I did bail after the first outing and I'm sore today. But as dcraider said, I just took some "vitamin M" (but guess it would be "vitamin I" since it's generic, ibuprofen ;) ).
Hope to see you on the trail soon, maybe next week?

I'm going to try and get there a bit early so I can ride some before the main ride. Anyone is welcome to join me. I'll be driving the green Camry with the red bike.

Two of us also plan on getting there about 515 or so for some tooling around and BSing. Driving a Silver Trailblazer and the other drives a White Cherokee.

torn muscle, ouch! good news that you are at least getting out on some rides again. you were definitely right on the diagnosis. it's actually not so much the riding that's bothersome, it's more the carrying/lifting/loading of the bike. If I can't get the bike on my car, then I can't really ride. It sucks, but I'm still going to hold of on riding until I go back to the doc the end of next week and hopefully will get his blessing then!
