SWM 29er geared rider, athletic but not extravagantly so, possibly accompanied by small posse, seeks ride leader for offroad adventures at Patapsco this Sunday morning. Enjoys up and downhill riding, some obstacles, decent pace, 2+ hours of ride time, pina coladas, sunsets and slow walks on the beach.

11am at the Park 'n Ride - myself and probably one other guy from Cap Hill Bikes will be around, as well as rollmonkey; we're all running times an' we plan on swapping bikes around so's rollmonkey can get a feel for how a 29er rides. Not it for "ride leading" myself, though. I get lost there too easily. :D

Would love to lead a ride there Sunday but I'll be riding at Fairhill that day.
You may want to hook up with Fleet street cycles or Prinston Sports. I believe they both start riding at 8:00 or 9:00 am. Fleet street or FSC starts from their shop and ride into the park. Prinston meets at the trail head at th Park-N- Ride.
Mountain bike review. com has a thread for SUNDAY MORNING PATAPSCO RIDES posted by The Prophet (Ryan). For the rides at FSC You can call and ask for Donald to see if they are still having their rides. I do not have their phone numbers off hand, but both have web sites to check out.

What does this mean, "running times?" Does that mean you're riding as fast as possible? Hrm...

I know the trails a little, just enough to get in trouble. I usually try to find someone there to tag along with, but I don't mind getting lost and then found again. There's not too much danger out there, except maybe the rabid Freeriders...

My buddies and I are going at 10, since we want to be back in time to watch football. We're going to wing it a little bit, but I'm sure we'll get a good ride in. Maybe we'll see some of y'all out there.

Sorry - Time pedals, so we can swap out bikes amongst ourselves.

Will probably see you out there. I've gotten plenty lost on those trails before, so here's hopin' your 10am-back-for-football ride doesn't turn into a 4pm-where-on-earth-are-we ride like one or two of mine have. :o

I was wondering if Rollmonkey was still alive. I cruised up to Patapsco so he could ride my 29er only to never hear from him again....

It looks like we'll be heading up there around 11 after all, hoping to catch up with Adam and posse for a tour instead of blundering our way through. Adam, give me a call if you can at 202-415-5315. Thanks!

I'll be there at 11 also; will be riding with some guys from work. We will be doing a casual (read: slow) paced ride. Since I'm still new here and haven't met any MORE members in person I won't know who any of ya'll are.... To help put a name with a face, I drive a silver Jeep, South Dakota tags and an orange flag on top of the cb antenna. Stop and say hi before barreling off into the woods, pls....

See ya in the A.M.

Edit add: will be parked on the side of Rolling Road, next to the trail drop in.

yikes! word. I'll be in a silver Elantra hatch (South Carolina tags: GOTERPS) with 29ers on the roof. 240-353-for-nein-wun-ate will get my cell if need be. I'll have two other dudes also from Cap Hill Bikes, one coming separately in (I think) a subaru sedan... and another couple of cap hill goons are getting there earlier for a 9:30 ride and then meeting us at the trailhead across the street from the park-n-ride at 11, but they're way mo' faster than I am so I'm all for letting them wear themselves out for an hour and a half before we hit the trail. :D

we're going to have at least half a dozen 29"-wheeled bikes on this ride, I think. Here's to speadin' that sweet sweet big-wheeled gospel!

The Capitol Hill posse of 3 will be stylin' in a blue protege with no hubcaps and a red bike rack. One yellow 29er and 2 minis. See y'all there.

If by "gang signs" you mean leaving blood in various patterns on random rocks and trees, then yes the trail will have some new "tags" :D

We (my posse :) ) rode Avalon today, the trails were saaweeet, the weather was grrrrrrrrreat, and tomorrow will be awsome again

Things went really weird out there today, as on two occasions the group was split up and unable to find itself again. Other than that, I had a great time, but I worry about the fate of the missing riders. I trust everyone made it back to the parking lot all right?

Lesson #1: Always have a designated ride leader. If you don't have one, designate one on the spot.
Lesson #2: Reiterate that each rider is responsible for the rider behind him/her.
Lesson #3: When in doubt, stop and wait.
Lesson #4: Never think that you are a badass, because inevitably some dude on a singlespeed will come along and show you that you are not. Thanks, Michael.

Everyone made it out alright - Travis and Matt and I turned up in the parking lot and Michael had been hanging out for around twenty minutes. We'd made it about to the parking lot where the demos were going on, headed back to the park-n-ride, when I bonked hard. Turns out rollmonkey's crankarm fell off - he mentioned something about aluminum shavings in the bottom bracket. Didn't have the tool needed for the outboard bearing arm, but the Trek demo guy took care of him enough that he could softpedal back to his car.

You're right, it was a weird ride, but I had fun. Didn't matter that Travis & Michael had been out already for an hour and a half - they still schooled us. :p Next time I'll eat more than a granola bar for breakfast and I'll park at the trailhead on the side of the road.

I'm sure we saw/passed ya'll on the trails, still no faces for names...but I can add to the lessons learned:

#5 Don't crash while doing a stream crossing (did it behind the water falls)

a) it's painfull crashing on rocks
b) the water is a little chilly
c) I didn't have a rubber ducky to make the most of it :D

Over all a good ride, although my string of 3 rides without a crash ended...
