Im thinking about doing a few downhill races next year at wisp resort and i would like to know what i would be getting myself into. Is there anybody who raced at whitetail who can compare the two courses? I hear its easier but i wanna make sure that its true. Also for those who have ran the course would you say its ok to run a giant reign with a 69.5 degree h/a there or should i get a job and start savin up for a more gravity oriented bike?

I have raced wisp and whitetail day 2 on a hardtail. Wisp is much easier than whitetail. The only tricky spots are some off camber roots and a little rock garden along with some rollable jumps. The thing about wisp is, that it's a really fast course( pros run it in 2 minutes and sports only run it in 3 minutes). But you will be fine on a reign its actually the perfect bike for the course in my opinion.

see you at the races

Alright thanks. I heard there is one tricky root garden that leads up to a steep chute. What is that like?

i dunno, i guess its just a little off camber and rooty and it shoots you into a moderaltly pitched rutted chute(not a true chute in my opinion) then over a tiny one foot log drop, if you are a decent bike handeler and know how to brake(not in the turn) then you will be ok. hydros do help too.

I'd still start saving your $$. Once you get bit by the gravity bug, there is little turning back. You might consider renting at Diablo or Wintergreen this season while they're still open.

How late into the fall is Wisp open for freeriding? I'd love to be able to get up there at least once this season...

I think you missed it. As far as I know, yesterday was the last day at Wisp for the season. Both Diablo and Wintergreen are open until Halloween though.

What all does wintergreen have? Is there a website for the MTB stuff?

Wisp is easy, but save your money because it is better on a big bike! I was there for the first and last day this season, and it was awesome (for a local resort anyway)!

Fast DH trails and sketchy shore style ladders and drops. Sorry, they have no decent website to refer you to.

Sounds like fun. For someone like me where time is more of a concern, I'm gonna try hitting wintergreen before the season closes. Thanks for all the good info guys.
