Well, seems that my imune system took as much as we could get until now, and I become my sensitive to either poison ivy or oak - well, I am sure getting older does help either.
The truth is, up till last friday, I was not too much concerned with either - I would get a light rash and itch, and was about it., would be gone whithin a day or two
This last time, I got worst than that, so I am looking for any information, hints, products used - home made or from the store, and any advice about how to fight back and/or prevent the evil.
...uh, yes avoid the areas where it does exist/grows, stay at home, not falling off the back and roll over it, , you know, litle details like that, are out-of-question :D :D :D

Thanks
Phil

This stuff (http://www.zanfel.com/help/info.html) is divine. Stops itching immediately, but sure to follow the directions to the letter. Good luck!

Shower immediately after ride. Wash clothes. If you are beginning to get it pretty bad then there is little hope.

does a good job, there are a variety of products they make. I've been using the extreme scrub, oh yeah!

It dissolves the oils that cause the rash so it heals faster, I also used the gel stuff they make to stop itching and there's another product that you can wash you clothes with. The oils can last through many normal washing, plus if it gets in you car (steering wheel, arm rest, etc) or if it's on your gloves, socks , shoes even your bike, you can get it over and over. Make sure you clean everything.

I have found the best cure outside the Doctor's Cortisone shot is going to the ocean and swimming in the salt water seems to really take the itch out and speeds my recovery time.

Swimming in a pool also helps but nothing like the ocean.

As for products, I actually like talc powder, both for it's ease of application & results.

For preventative: I hose down with leftover Camel-back water and have a second set of old biking shoes just for Patapsco

You didn't get PI out at Schaeffer while riding with me did you???????

Here's what ya need to know:
http://www.deepcaves.net/PI/pi.html

Technu if know you've contacted the stuff (and are within a few hours of the contact). Zanfel to stop the itch after that. Or, very much cheaper and works just as well is Paradise Road Poison Oak Soap which is rather tough to locate around here.

And, we don't have poison oak out east. But boy did I get a nasty case of it in California in July. It was ALL over one trail I rode.

It seems so - it took over 24 hours to show up, which is normal (at least with me), even for mosquito bites, and that is what sucks. Unless I realize at the moment that I did roll over it, well. then I will now whitin two days or less.
I do carry stuff for afterwards, but is there anything you can rub before you go on a ride, you know like a sunscreen sort of thing?
BTW, thank for all the info everyone ;)

...and talking about things that I did get at Schaeffer, I had to start doing cleasing recovering sessions at the Lung Center near by home - The doctor detected some sort of airborne contamination in my lungs during the check-up. Funy thing that during the exam he mention that all the sudden he was thinking in having mexican food for lunch - which normally he does not crave. Weird Uh?

It's called Ivy Block.

Put it on like sunscreen and protects you for about 4 hours
