After doing at loop at Rosaryville today, we decided to head down to Cedarville and do the Orange-Blue-White-Orange loop. I was absolutely stunned by how much damage the storm did, and apparently no maintainance work has been done whatsoever. Before you even get to the "split" at the beginning of the Orange trail, there is an enormous tree blocking the path. There were quite a number of other large trees down that make riding impossible (even if you have the technical skills I lack). But the Blue trail appears to have had the worst damage. I would go so far as to say that it verges on "impassable" -- where there aren't whole downed trees, there are fallen trees just hung up on the branches of still standing trees that threaten to come down at any moment across the path. The White trail had the least problems.
I suppose some of y'all might take pleasure in knowing that at this point, Cedarville is going to be free of equestrian traffic for the foreseeable future. ;) OTOH, hunting season has already begun (!) ... there I was, expecting to have to stop at any moment for storm debris when I came up fast on a shotgun-toting individual on the Blue trail over by the archery area. Fortunately, he did not appear to be interested in "the most dangerous game." :o
I only wish I wasn't going to be out of state for the next three weeks or so for the holidays so I could help clear the trails. :(
