Anne Morgan, who started Ride Like a Girl in Richmond (the inspiration for our own RLAG), has invited us to join RLAG-Richmond in a joint ride at Fountainhead on Saturday, September 16. This was originally going to be an Avalon ride, but it's the only weekend in September both RLAG's have free (which is pretty cool, actually!). So.... we're going to do things a little differently this time: One, we're going to have an associated ride for the guys, led by Scott Scudamore, AND we're going to have a picnic afterwards. So, if you've got a dude who rides, bring 'em along (and bring a dish to share while you're at it!)
Date and Time: Saturday, September 16, 10:30 am
Where: Fountainhead Park, Fairfax, VA. This is an intermediate level park (the August 2001 issue of Bike Magazine described Fountainhead as "some of the region's most challenging singletrack.") Squirrel Girl says: "Fountainhead has lots of hills. In fact, there is nothing flat there at all. Also, there are roots, roots, roots, and more roots. Plus a few rocks. It's not very technical, but it's relentlessly minorly technical, and it's continually up and down. It takes me nearly 2 hours to ride the full loop and I ride often (if slowly). Word to the wise. You shouldn't come if you're brand new to mountain biking, but if think miles of ups and downs and roots would probably be OK, then come on along!"
Fountainhead is located at 10876 Hampton Road, Fairfax Station, VA 22039. ADC Northern Virginia Street Map page 26, grid E7. N 38? 43.453' W 077? 19.787'.
Pace: We'll have Pokey (led by Squirrel Girl), Casual, and Moderate. WE NEED LEADERS for Casual and Moderate. If you know Fountainhead at all, PLEASE help us out on this one. Anne will lead one group, but probably doesn't know the park all that well, so will need a co-leader. I can't lead a group, since I don't know the park and I've volunteered to help out Scud.
Picnic: If you are planning on staying for the picnic, please bring a side dish to share! Scud and the guys are doing burgers and dogs and maybe some fries (!!!), Anne's group is bringing a little bit (but they have a longer drive than many of us do), and I'm bringing a huge pasta salad, but we need lots more. So please help out if you can.
