01/25/04>>> Temp. 20',1"of snow...I got a chance to ride the flat river trail near the Daniels Area today. The last time I rode here was just after Hurricane Isabell. At that time there was a horrendous amount of dead-fall making the trail unrideable. I had forgotten about the whole thing but as I approched the section of note, everything came back to me. Luckily, someone had been busy and had managed to clear all but one head-high dead-fall. The one inch snow made for a beautiful ride. I just wish I had had the time to ride the hill sections. Unfortunately, due to a late start I was already racing the sun. I rode the trail back with my lights. Night riding with snow is so cool. MY HAT GOES OFF TO THE PEOPLE WHO CLEAR THE TRAILS....I hope to join you soon...:)

02/14/04>>> Temp. 42*>>I took a quick out and back along the flat river trail. The service road ( dirt/gravel ) prior to the trail had lots of standing water and some traces of the last snow. Conditions along the single track portion were not too bad. Long segments of the trail still had a snow hard-pack from the heavy foot/bike traffic. Roll was good along these segments. Here and there parts of the dirt are starting to peek thru. These "transitional" segments were a bit slower but still quite rideable. Even the open dirt segments ran well with good roll and little mud fly-up. Note: I did do some fish-tailing here and there but for the most part conditions were predictable. I finished the ride with very little mud ( if any ) on my bike. The picture is the sunset along the Patapsco. Enjoy!:)
