Hey Ladies! This is Anne from RLAG Richmond.
I finally have a couple of weekend free in September and wanted to know if any of the DC women would be interested in helping to organize a joint RLAG at Fountainhead? That's about an hour drive from the Richmond area.
So what do you think?

Hi Anne,
That's a great idea... when were you thinking? We have women's rides scheduled up here on 9/16 and 9/30, we could move the location to Fountainhead on either of those dates. We have a clinic on 9/23 that can't be moved, so that date is out. Let me know what works for you!

Well I was going to say 9/23 but how about 9/16?
Kinda short notice but if I get the e-mail out soon then it should be fine. 9/30 is the day before our big local Poor Farm race so that day is out. Also there will ineveitably be some tag along men so I will probably tag team the RLAG with an official MORE ride for the men also and will see if I can muster up some ride leaders on my end for that.

I can prolly make the 16th. BTW, anyone wanna take a guided kayak trip down Bull Run on the 17th????? They need 5 or the trip's cancelled and I'm dying to go.
Anyway, I rode FH on Monday, had a lovely time, then rented a kayak there at the FH marina and had a lovely time. I ride "Pokey." So I can either lead a pokey group or whatever.
Not that I care, but I thought RLAG forbade men?

So do we want to do this? I'm thinking the earliest we could plan a ride is about 10:30.
I'll be at Snowshoe this weekend so I'll need to get an e-mail out and get it posted today or tomorrow morning.
As for the men, as soon as I post something I know that they'll be some men who want to come including my BF so might as well plan a men's ride too (of course they can form their own group).

That works for us... I'll send out an email to my list today, looking for additional leaders (Thanks, SG). Should we plan a potluck after?
Not that I care, but I thought RLAG forbade men?No, we don't forbid men, we just realize that many women are more comfortable or just enjoy riding with other women, so we encourage the guys to ride on their own. Many rides have had informal guy groups at the same time on the same trail. Next year we plan on having a couple of co-ed rides (tho...the guys may have to come in drag...or something...)

I'll send out an e-mail with a 10:30 start time. I'm thinking that a pot luck is really not feasible from my end, with an hour+ drive, I don't know that there are many people who are going to want to fix something to bring.
We would however be interested in recomendations on a decent place to eat with everyone afterwards.

 ;) :) :D ;) :p :D
Anyway, I'll be happy to lead a Pokey group. I can lead all women, or mixed. Though as I told Liz when she started RLAG, I offered to lead women before RLAG started and only men would show up on my rides, so I gave up. I don't care who comes on my rides. But if women want all women rides, I'll enforce all women rides. If they don't care, I sure the heck don't.

E-mail sent out. I am not only marketing this as a RLAG but also as and official Richmond MORE ride for everyone. I will secure at least one male who will serve as the Richmond ride leader for the men.
Would it be possible for someone on your end to get together the men and make it an official ride for them also?

I'll put it in the email I send out.

... I don't condem those guys at all. In general terms, girls do smell better - even after two hours of sweating, don't spit, burp or fart ...or even come up with dirty jokes....
j...ust kiding, but the truth is I do find in my own experience, in all others states/regions I lived and ride before, that girls are more relaxed and easy going, making a casual ride much more pleasant and ...casual :p
DISCLOSURE: no intent to offend any guys or gals :D

Though I do conceed that you can't find a mountain biker too much more relaxed than I am.
Note: I ride Pokey. This would be a no drop ride. Everyone is welcome on it. But it is NOT a beginners ride. Fountainhead has lots of hills. In fact, there is nothing flat there at all. Also, there are roots, roots, roots, and more roots. Plus a few rocks. It's not very technical, but it's relentlessly minorly technical, and it's continually up and down. It takes me nearly 2 hours to ride the full loop and I ride often (if slowly). Word to the wise. You shouldn't come if you're brand new to mountain biking, but if think miles of ups and downs and roots would probably be OK, then come on along! :)
Can I interest anyone in a post ride kayak trip??? The only problem is that after all those hills, your butt gets kinda sore parked motionless in a boat for an hour or so. But it's still really peaceful on the water. I highly recommend it. :)

I have just posted up on the calendar a Fountainhead ride for 10:30am for anyone not riding the RLAG ride. I will also be up for doing an impromptu picnic afterwards cooking up some burgers dogs and maybe a few scud fries. If anyone wants to help just let me know
