Sorry..another question:

Started noticing some slipage in my drive train. (Under torque, cranks slip ahead as if missing gear). Cassette is a month old, chain brand new....the 22 and 32 rings were replaced in March this year (6 mo ago!).

My first thought is that the rings need to be replaced again, but wow!-- 6 mo life span on Truvativ rings?!? WTF?--do i really grind 'em that hard? My second thought was that I just installed new rear der and cable...maybe I haven't properly adjusted for cable stretch. When compared side by side, the new rings look no different than the old rings as far as wear.

I'm throwing on some new rings now.. but can someone tell me if this could simply be a cable tension issue or something?

Or maybe a stiff link?
Edit: heh,..ok..answered my own question. It WAS a link.

Sounds like you may have a bad free hub.

In talking with a wrench the other day about the issue...he considered same. It's an XT that I laced up myself just a month or so ago, and even tho Shimano isn't the highest quality in hubs...it should definitely be adequate. There was DEF a stiff link, tho...I fixed that and there were no issues on today's ride. I'll play by ear..

I learned all about stiff links while putting together my homebuilt SS. They sure can be irritating to deal with.

I've ridden Truvativ chainrings on all three of my bikes and haven't had any problems related to the chainrings, so I don't think that is the issue.
