I’m now living in the land of enchantment (Albuquerque, New Mexico). I’ve started commuting to work through the city, and I’m considering getting a fixed gear commuter bike to save the road bike for other riding. However, being 6’6” makes things complicated. Any suggestions on a fixed gear frame, or complete bike that would fit me? My Cannondale road bike is 66cm…

it depends on what you want to spend. You want stylish look at Sycip. They have a sweet fixed gear on their web page and can make them as big as you want.

Hi Jens,

I am on the opposite end since my inseam is small, though I due need lots of top tube because my torso is long. I've been looking to replace my old Trek road bike fixie for a couple years and finally settled on a Gunnar Street Dog (http://gunnarbikes.com/streetdog.php). Got a shop deal of $550 for the frame, retail is $850). If the stock sizes don't fit you, you can go custom for $1025.

The Surly Steamroller (http://www.surlybikes.com/steamroller.html) comes in 62. Or you can find any frame that fits you and build a rear wheel to use a Surly Fixxer (http://aebike.com/page.cfm?PageID=30&action=details&sku=HU9020) .

Speaking of Albuquerque, have you been to PARS (http://www.parscuisine.com/home.htm) during belly-dancing night yet? :)

good luck getting a 66 cm bike for $700. I'd be supprised to see a frame for that. I haven't seen a production frame that size since 1990 when I got my cannondale (mine was a 63, they offered a 66 as a frame only - no complete bikes in that size). Most companies don't even make anything larger than a 60 these days.

If you really need a 66cm frame I think you are talking custom. Sorry.

Shoot - dont' buy some off the shelf overpriced custom this or that blah blah.

Go here:
http://albuquerque.craigslist.org/bik/

Old 25" framed Raleighs or Fuji's from the '70's and '80s are more common than you think. Easy to convert to fixed too.

Or you could ENO your cannondale and make a reason to get a new road bike
