View Full Version : RLAG August 12, 10 am: Rockburn/Avalon

Ride Like a Girl will be riding Rockburn and Avalon parks this Saturday, sponsored by Princeton Sports. The rides will be led by Julie W and Jo M (casual), and Stacey S (intermediate).

If you are planning on attending, please let me know!

Date and Time: Saturday, August 12, 10 am to 12noon/1 pm

Pace/Terrain: Appropriate for most riders with a little experience. The Intermediate/Moderate group will be doing slightly more technical terrain. The Casual group will be riding mostly rolling single track; many obstacles will have walk-arounds. There will be some climbs and descents.

Where:
Starting at Rockburn Park in Elkridge, riding over into Avalon; Meet at the lower parking lot (directions and map below.)

Directions to the Park:
Rockburn Branch Park West Area -6105 Rockburn Branch Park Road, Elkridge
From Rte. 29, take Rte. 100 east to Md. 103 exit. Go around the circle and cross over Rte. 100; proceed through next circle. At the first signal light, make a right on Montgomery Road. Proceed to signal light and make a left to remain on Montgomery Road. Travel about a mile; make a left onto Rockburn Branch Park Road and proceed to park.

If this parking lot is full, please use the parking near 9 and 10 on the map and ride your bike back to meet the group.

What to Bring: All riders MUST wear a helmet (no lid, no ride), bring water, and have a trail-ready bike. Riders should also carry the usual basics: spare tube(s), a pump, tire levers, a chain tool, and basic allen wrenches.

I plan to be there, I've only ridden my bike a few times so I will definately be in the casual group.

Right now it looks like 5-6 on each group. Have a great ride Ladies.... Jo, Julie, and Stacey, call me on my cell if you need anything!

Nice to ride Avalon with no mud!
Stacey showed awesome trail knowledge; next time she says to downshift before a hill, I will do just that.

We had a record breaking turn out of 18 women for today's ride! We ran into quite a few surprised guys out there who couldn't get over seeing two huge groups of women mountain bikers! :D

Next time, I'll need to bring the camera so that we can get action shots of riders coming down/going up hills up and over logs (or in my case, falling over logs :o )
